Ruthless and Rebellious, The Boyz Return with “MAVERICK”
It has been quite a year for The Boyz, and they are back with another single that is high-energy, rough-around-the-edges, dark, and a bit sinister. It’s a definite change up from “THRILL RIDE,” which is bright and summery. As their third single album, The Boyz serve up three brand new tracks on MAVERICK that offer a mature and gritty style that is catchy and captivating.

“MAVERICK”
Defined as someone who does not conform to the rules, The Boyz call themselves mavericks. To some they may seem like villains, and they are not exactly heroes. Throughout the song, The Boyz reference that they are going to do whatever they want to attain their goals and play the game the way they want to play. Forget the rules and following the crowd, “MAVERICK” encapsulates rebelling and fighting the system that is put in place. “MAVERICK” is filled with deep bass and synths that give it an electro-hip-hop vibe that booms throughout the song. The moment the chorus and the lyric, “back in the game, son” hits, there is this overwhelming power and confidence within not only The Boyz, but the song itself. It’s unhinged and rowdy, but so addictive that “MAVERICK” solidifies itself as the powerhouse against their previous releases.
When diving deeper into the music video, it starts off with the members being tagged with lit-up collars that indicate that they are mavericks, and they are placed into a compound to fight against one another. For what goal exactly? It remains unknown, however, The Boyz are caught up in a battle royale situation and can be seen trying to take each other down throughout the video. There are several hints at themes like eternal life, salvation from “the vain,” and the dystopian world they live in.
While the music video doesn’t exactly explain or show the threat that is against The Boyz, there is something out there and they are more than ready to take it on. “MAVERICK” does not disappoint with showcasing the choreography, which incorporates large and aggressive movements that blend with the song’s power and attitude. The Boyz flawlessly execute such impressive choreography and remind many that they are a force to be reckoned with. At the end of the music video, there is a teaser that shows that this particular era of The Boyz is not the end. With an abrupt end and the words, “protect yourself from what you want,” there is still more to the story that we don’t know about yet, nor do we know what this new era means for The Boyz.
Overall, The Boyz have returned with a banger of a new single. They are continuing to show their colors and are a group that many should really be paying attention to. “MAVERICK” feels aggressive, but there is something about it that makes one want to join in and cause chaos alongside them.
