GroovyRoom’s Production Hits

GroovyRoom has certainly been put in the spotlight for their work on Show Me The Money and High School Rapper, but did you know the producer duo has had a hand in some of your favorite K-Pop tracks as well? Below are some of our favorite releases that the duo has produced.

“Selfish & Beautiful Girl” - Block B BASTARZ

The 2016 release from Block B sub-unit Block B BASTARZ was the first comeback for the trio, with “Selfish & Beautiful Girl” being released before “Make It Rain.” The track showcased a different side to the unit, which made waves with the powerful “Zero for Conduct” in 2015. “Selfish & Beautiful Girl” is a groovy track with a retro feel that you can’t help but dance along to, the catchy beat impossible to deny. It’s a perfect upbeat song that brings the feel-good vibes, and one listen will definitely get you hooked. Along with the signature “Groovy Everywhere” at the beginning of the track, rapper P.O. also gives the duo a shoutout as the song wraps up.

“Don’t Know You” - HEIZE

Arguably HEIZE’s biggest breakthrough track, “Don’t Know You” released in 2017 is one of the tracks that helped skyrocket the soloist to the top of the charts and become a household name. HEIZE’s unique vocal tone is complemented by a classic R&B beat that does a good job at remaining subtle, but leaving an impression with its catchiness while HEIZE takes center stage.

“Heyahe” - ONE

A personal favorite track of all time, ONE’s “Heyahe,” presents a sultry R&B beat in almost perfect fashion. We all know the lyrics are extremely spicy, but that alone couldn’t convey the meaning of the song without an equally spicy melody to accompany it. You can definitely feel the inspiration from ‘90s popular R&B, with a steady mid-tempo beat accompanied by drum and cymbals. It’s hard to describe what makes this song so pristine, but there’s no doubt that it’s a total masterpiece.

“Just U” - Jeong Sewoon ft. Sik-K

Jeong Sewoon’s debut track “Just U” was a big deal, considering the soloist was rather popular while on the show Produce 101 Season 2. It makes a strong statement to start out your career with a GroovyRoom produced track, and on top of that it showed the duo branching out into more mainstream K-Pop productions. “Just U” features a more acoustic-heavy influence on the beat, highlighted by the guitar chords that take the focus at the beginning of the track. A driving pop beat is added to complement Sewoon’s vocals, and all the different elements used in the chorus keep the song fresh and interesting. Sik-K’s verse is added seamlessly after the first chorus, and the melody backs off just slightly to highlight him, which creates a wonderful mix.

“코끼리” - Gaeko ft RM

Older ARMYs may remember this track coming out back in 2017. It was a big deal to have BTS leader RM featured on a track with one of the members of the legendary Dynamic Duo, and the single “코끼리” was a perfect opportunity for the idol rapper to show off his skills alongside Gaeko. The song itself may not be a favorite unless you’re a fan of rap, but one of the best staples of the track is the catchy and driving beat created by GroovyRoom. The 6/8 time signature (we are not professionals but can tell a waltz time signature from a normal one) is definitely what makes the song particularly memorable, considering the majority of popular songs are in 4/4 time.
