Best of February 2021 B-Sides
Another month has passed and with it another slew of amazing B-sides that came out of Korea. Here are some of the best B-sides from February 2021.
“Next” by Kim Wooseok
While all of the tracks off of Kim Wooseok’s mini-album 2ND DESIRE [ TASTY ] are catchy and amazing in their own right, there’s something about the curveball thrown by the final track “Next” that has us hooked. On an album of mostly upbeat pop tracks with a hint of softness, it’s the edgy, sensualness of “Next” that has us wanting more. You can read about the title track “Sugar” here.
“Lemon” by Chungha ft. Colde
With a whopping 21 tracks on her first full-length album, Querencia, it was difficult to only choose one B-side from Chungha. However, “Lemon” is an interesting blend of pop and R&B elements, thanks in part to Colde’s lyrics and feature on the track, and you can’t help but dance while listening. “CØDE” by SHINee
While “Marry You,” the track SHINee performed during their online concert, The Ringtone: SHINee is Back, may have been the obvious track for the group’s best B-side from their first release since 2018, there’s something so incredibly addictive about “CØDE.” Key’s opening verse reminds us of early SHINee while the track sees the group experiment with synths and techno beats in a way we haven’t seen from them in a while. SHINee is definitely back and we here at The Kraze are thrilled.
“꽃같네 (What The Flower)” by Sunmi
Every Sunmi release is beautiful in its own way, but there is something so incredibly elegant about her latest single album 꼬리 (TAIL) and B-side “꽃같네 (What The Flower).” Using jazz elements to her advantage, Sunmi uses the metaphor of how cats behave with their humans to paint a cynical picture of life and how one can hide their real feelings. “Bucket List” by BIG Naughty
On an album filled with features and big-name producers, B-side “Bucket List” is the only track off of BIG Naughty’s Bucket List without a featured artist, letting the rapper shine. Produced by DPR CREAM, the track is described by staff writer Roxanne Wilson as, “a great mix of genres used in the rest of the album.” The hip-hop beat carries the upbeat message throughout the track and gives us a bit of hope in otherwise bleak times.
