Throwback Thursday: Seeing Double
Let’s face it: there are a lot of K-Pop songs, so there are bound to be some duplicates. But sometimes things that seem the same on the surface are actually different as can be!
“Heart Attack” - EXO and “Heart Attack” - LOONA (Chuu)
In 2013, EXO released their hit debut album, XOXO. Included in the tracklist was the mysterious sounding B-side “Heart Attack.” Four years later, LOONA’s Chuu was introduced with her bright, retro-influenced solo “Heart Attack.”
“High Heels” - CLC and “High Heels” - Brave Girls
CLC’s 2016 mini-album, Refresh, was led by the title track “High Heels,” an upbeat song which couldn’t have been more befitting of the album’s name. A mix of bubblegum pop and retro style, the track could not have been more different from the 2020 girl power anthem of the same name by Brave Girls.
“Twilight” - WANNA ONE and “Twilight” - ATEEZ
Following one of the most successful K-Pop debuts, WANNA ONE released 1-1=0 (Nothing Without You) in 2017, with one of the newer tracks on the repackaged album being their feel-good EDM ballad “Twilight.” A year later, ATEEZ came onto the scene with their debut mini-album Treasure EP.1: All to Zero with their much more tropical version of “Twilight.”
“Catch Me” - Cosmic Girls and “Catch me!” - UP10TION
In 2015, UP10TION released the fun, in-your-face track “Catch me!” with more than enough bad boy energy to spare. Cosmic Girls, meanwhile, tried their hand at a femme fatale concept in 2016 with the second single, “Catch Me,” off their debut mini-album Would You Like?
