YUGYEOM Says “I Want U Around” for his Solo Debut

GOT7’s maknae has finally made his solo debut! After the announcement of YUGYEOM signing to AOMG, fans could not contain their excitement for what he would release with his solo work, especially after the teaser announcement of him signing with the label.

YUGYEOM makes his debut with the release of the single “I Want U Around,” released ahead of his EP [Point Of View: U] set to release on June 17, 2021. The song was notably produced by GRAY and features female artist DeVita, giving this solo debut the sultry and smooth edge that fans were eagerly awaiting upon release.

“I Want U Around” is an R&B track that plays on grittier sounds using synth vocalization as the primary backing alongside the beat’s percussion. The song itself is about falling for someone and longing to have them around; there is something about this person that just feels so right, and YUGYEOM can’t stop thinking about them. Just having them around is enough, and YUGYEOM is willing to go the extra mile by giving up extra money just to have them with him because he has fallen that deep. With the added vocalization from DeVita, there is this electrifying chemistry between the artists that is addictive and blends so smoothly, listeners can’t resist playing it again and again.

Since the song has a darker tone, it comes as no surprise that the music video also features a darker setting. Shot in places such as an expansive desert wasteland and forest, it provides this feeling of longing and emptiness that the song describes. Viewers are in for a more visual treat of effortless profile shots of both YUGYEOM and DeVita, and only glimpses of choreography by YUGYEOM. The symbolism of falling and plunging deeper into these feelings is prominent throughout the video as well, whether it be DeVita throwing the torch into the hole or YUGYEOM looking up from the bottom of this hole of emotions.

YUGYEOM has really made a name for himself, and his solo debut just proves that he is well-rounded and really good at what he does. Although this is only a single, fans can anticipate what he has in store next on June 17 when the EP releases.
