Idols are Rocking the Rainbow Hairstyle

There is nothing new and surprising about K-Pop idols showing up with the brightest, bravest hair colors, but sometimes it is still very impressive how they can rock the edgiest hairstyles with no problem. One of those looks is the always eye-catching rainbow colors.

Continuing our rainbow theme for Pride Month, we collected several colorful hairstyles that seem hard to pull off, but these idols still managed to make cool. As with everything in fashion, there is a wide variety of choices on how to interpret the rainbow concept into your own style. Bright or pastel colors? All around or just highlights? Pick what you fancy most. Here are some inspirations.

If you have been a K-Pop fan long enough, you definitely remember EXO member Sehun’s bright hairstyle during the “Wolf” era. We haven’t seen him playing with colors for a while now, but this look is still iconic to this day.

Pastel colors have been trending the past few years, and idol hairstylists are well aware of that. One of our recent favorite rainbow dyes was ATEEZ leader Hongjoong’s hair during the Kingdom: Legendary War finale. It’s soft, but still show-stopping. He looked gorgeous.

But the shades are not the only thing you can play around with. While this coloring is mostly seen on longer cuts, SHINee’s Key proved that he can rock this bright dye with short hair as well during “Good Evening” promotions in 2018—and this was not his only rainbow hairstyle.

Another one of our favorites is Lee Youngji’s rainbow bangs. Like how cool is that? And you also don’t have to commit to dyeing all your hair.

These were just a few examples to show the variety of possibilities with rainbow hair, but idols like MONSTA X’s Minhyuk and NCT’s Taeyong also rocked this style among many others, just like Jay Park and Jessica for a campaign.

If you want to achieve one of these looks, the easiest and safest option would be to visit a hairstylist. And if you are still not convinced about dyeing all your hair, you can ask for a prism dyeing that will look like rainbow-colored highlights in your hair. If you already have a lighter hair shade or bleached hair, you can also experiment with hair chalk or tints at home. These will last a shorter time, but could be a great option for a Pride event or the upcoming festival season.
