Taeyong and Seulgi Reunite on New Track “Rose”

Eight years ago, both Taeyong of NCT and Seulgi of Red Velvet were introduced to the world as part of the SM Rookies team. Over the years, the two artists have gone on to have extremely successful careers as part of their respective groups. In 2017, the two known for their killer moves collaborated for a special performance stage at the 19th Mnet Asian Music Awards. Now, four years later, the duo reunites on “Rose” released on Taeyong’s personal SoundCloud

A collaboration in every aspect, the song was co-written and co-composed by the two singers. “Rose” is a trendy R&B track produced by long-time collaborator SQUAR. The song’s lyrics speak of a tricky relationship as the two performers compare their love to a thorny rose and they dare to reach the beautiful parts i.e. the rose that lies past the thorns. Both vocalists shine on their individual verses; featuring Taeyong’s soft vocals and rap delivery, the track beautifully mixes his voice with Seulgi’s sultry tone, which is best evident in the final chorus. Although unconfirmed, the song seems to sample the soundtrack to 2004 Japanese animated fantasy film Howl’s Moving Castle, creating a dreamy vibe.

The track is Taeyong’s seventh SoundCloud release and follows his previous collaboration, “Monroe” with Baekhyun of EXO. You can read our review of his previous tracks here.

The song also marks an important milestone in Seulgi’s career, who debuts as a songwriter and composer on the track. For Taeyong, “Rose” is yet another entry in his ever-growing songwriting discography. With the new song, Taeyong’s SoundCloud is not only an outlet for his creativity but also for his collaborators.
