MINZY Craves Passionate Romance in “TEAMO”

A year after her last comeback, solo artist MINZY dropped the sultry and romantic track “TEAMO.” This is MINZY’s third single release since she became a solo artist in 2016.

MINZY is best known as a former member and dancer of the second generation girl group 2NE1. In April 2016, she left YG Entertainment to focus on becoming a solo artist, and she signed with Music Works, a subsidiary label of CJ E&M, within a month of leaving YG. A year later, she was finally able to release her first solo debut EP, MINZY WORK 01 UNO with the title track “NINANO.” In 2018, she also released an English track titled “ALL OF YOU SAY.” However, MINZY encountered a legal dispute with Music Works that led to her leaving the company by April 2020. By the following month, she released the track “Lovely,” her first solo track as an independent artist. In October 2020, MINZY founded her own company called MZ Entertainment, where she continues future activities as a solo artist. 

Outside of idol life, MINZY participated as a cast member of the program Sister’s Slam Dunk : Season 2 and was a contestant on the shows Korean Masked Singer, and South Korean Foreigners. MINZY graduated from Baekseok University in 2017, with magna cum laude honors from the Department of Theology. 

“TEAMO” 

“TEAMO” is a Latin and hip-hop infused track composed by Gionata Caracciolo, Sofia Ahläng, and Janne Hyöty, with writing credits from MINZY as well. The track is about confessing your love for that special someone and wanting the passion that comes with it. For starters, the name of the track is sung as “te amo,” which means “I love you” in Spanish. Aside from the title, there are lyrics like, “You are stuck in my heart, come closer to me,” and, “It’s hot, it’s an exploding fire, it’s burning,” that describe the passion she feels when she’s around that special person. Though it appears as if maybe the other person doesn’t know it’s love just yet, when she says, “Don’t pretend you’re not, don’t fake it infront of me, come and get me.” One part of the song that will be stuck in your head is the catchy intro/post-chorus of the track where MINZY sings, “I know, I know, I know sí, te amo.” She showcases her warm vocals and rap that fans are certain to have missed from her. Overall, it’s a rhythmic track that’ll make you want to dance along with someone special. 

The music video showcases a more matured MINZY in outfits that complement her body as she shows off her dancing skills, and the dark and tropical vibe in her performance plays well with the seductive aura MINZY gives off. Even though the choreography may look simplistic, it’s actually quite the opposite as MINZY is a seasoned and effortless dancer. This video caters more to the choreography and her dance skills, which fans are definitely not complaining about. With a selection of dark, colorful, and fringey outfits, MINZY can pull off any style and still have jaw-dropping visuals.
