The Complete Guide to Biases: Picking Your Bias, Bias Wreckers, and More
“OMG! You stan that group too? So do I! Who’s your bias?”
If you’re new to K-Pop, you may be confused when you hear that question. To put it simply, your bias is your favorite member of the group! Whether you’re new to K-Pop or are a K-Pop veteran, this is your guide for picking your bias, bias wreckers, and more!
Picking Your Bias
When you first start learning a new group, it can be overwhelming—having to learn and match names to faces, possible sub-units within the group, their positions in the group, and so on. This all happens before you can even think about picking a bias! Sometimes as you learn, or even at the beginning of the learning process, a member may catch your eye immediately and that’s okay too!
When it comes to picking a bias, it can all vary. Think about what drew you to other groups you enjoy, and what made you choose your favorite member. The same thing applies to your bias! Sometimes they can catch your attention right away with their visuals, and other times it can happen after watching hours of content and being drawn to them gradually by their charisma!
Bias Wreckers
So you found your bias, great! But now there’s other members that you also just can’t keep your attention off of. These are what we call “bias wreckers”—the members who almost make you question who your bias really is.
Other members “wrecking your bias” is super common. In fact, it’s really common for more than one member to be a bias wrecker—sometimes it’s the rest of the group!
Bias Lines
When it comes to stanning groups, especially the larger ones (NCT for example), it’s common to have more than one bias. More than one bias is simply called your “bias line.” Still using NCT as an example, let’s say you bias Mark, Jaehyun, and Haechan. Those three would be your bias line!
Don’t forget, it’s perfectly okay to have more than one bias. Biases are the members you can connect with, and in the larger groups especially, it’s easy to love more than one member.
Ult Biases
Stanning numerous groups and having biases all over the place can also be pretty common in the K-Pop fandom, but sometimes one bias of yours just keeps a lot of your attention over the others. This is your “ultimate (ult) bias.”
Usually if you favor a group over others as well, this is your “ult group” and it’s typical that your ult bias is in that group. Your ult bias is the one you feel the most “connected” to—sometimes you may collect their photocards or hold birthday events for them! They are the bias you give your attention to the most.
Important Things To Remember
While picking and choosing a bias can be fun, there’s a few things to remember:
Having a bias doesn’t mean you like other members any less!
Many people will have the same bias as you; there is no reason to fight with other fans over them. You are all still fans of that same idol at the end of the day.
There’s a difference between having a bias and being a solo stan.
Enjoy your biases! Collect their photocards if you want! Hold cupsleeve events!
Stanning groups and learning who your bias is can be really fun as long as you make it fun. Let us know who your ult biases are by leaving us a tweet @KrazeMagazine on Twitter!
