Throwback Thursday: Getaway with WINNER

YG Entertainment's boy group WINNER released their second single album OUR TWENTY FOR in the summer of 2017. The “FOR” has multiple meanings as there are four members, and it was even released on August 4, 2017. The album title is also a play on words as it means, for WINNER, spending their twenties together as four. The single album features “LOVE ME LOVE ME” and “ISLAND,” which were co-written by members MINO and Seungyoon. These beachy vibes from this comeback will have you reminiscing and enjoying the fun of summer.

“LOVE ME LOVE ME”

This is a refreshing song that gets sweeter with every listen. “LOVE ME LOVE ME” focuses more on the vocals of Seungyoon and Jinwoo, with MINO and Hoon’s rapping being a nice added layer for this upbeat track. The music video is simple and chock-full of cute heart emojis and clips of the group out having fun and relaxing. WINNER also went for a softer aesthetic, including a pastel palette of blues, greens, and yellows with bright whites to contrast. It even features the members wearing themed blue outfits. WINNER does not have an intense choreography for the song, which allows us to focus more on the tune of this track. The main point in this dance, however, is quite distinctive during the chorus of the song as WINNER included a finger heart in the move that is adorable to watch and recreate yourself!

“ISLAND”

“ISLAND” brings us a lighthearted song with a tropical house sound for this summer tune. Between the repeated hook and the smooth flow between the vocal and rap parts, this song is really catchy, and the video is just as enjoyable to watch. Similar to “LOVE ME LOVE ME,” their choreo for this song is quite easy to follow and uses lots of wave motions throughout the various dance moves. The styling of the members is put together well, as they each have their own style, such as MINO’s iconic neon yellow hair, but each member has a touch of white for a small matching trend to their outfits, adding to the clean and freshness of the song. Another great part about this video is all of the cute moments between the members that add to the feeling of going on an island getaway with friends, from bike riding to exploring the scenic view. There’s even a romantic moment between Seungyoon and a girl before it cuts to MINO and Hoon lovingly holding hands. As a fun fact, because of this scene, KBS actually banned this song due to the implied homosexuality.

Although OUR TWENTY FOR only includes two songs, “LOVE ME LOVE ME” and “ISLAND” show fond memories between friends enjoying summer and journeying through life together.
