If you’re like me and found your way to the K-Pop world from emo or metal music, sometimes you may find yourself missing that type of sound. While there are some K-Pop and K-Rock groups breaking into that realm, no one has gone quite as far as the original, especially when it comes to screamo. Allow me to introduce you to Synsnake, a self-proclaimed electronicore band from Seoul consisting of five members: vocalists Serah Oh and Sungmin Cho, guitarist Randy Jaemin Kim, bassist Hyunjae Choi, and drummer Eero. While they formed in 2016, on Spotify you will only find the debut single and their recently released first full-length album Fluxus back in May.

The first music video released for the album was “Manneristic,” which gives quite a good overview of the group’s music as a whole. Sure, music videos for this type of genre aren’t as flashy or story-heavy as K-Pop music videos, but the gothic imagery definitely elicits some nostalgic feelings. Sungmin actually has a really good screaming technique and range, and Serah’s contrasting vocals fit together nicely. “Manneristic” feels like it has a lot more emphasis on the heavy metal sound rather than electronic, which makes it feel like a classic.

“Saturn In The Loop” is currently the music video for this album that has the most views, and the song definitely has a different feel as it opens up with a more EDM influenced beat. The guitar and major melodic line also have more of a pop-punk feel, so it’s a good showcase of the range this band has in terms of sound within this genre. The video also has a brighter set to showcase the band a bit better. This track may have a bit more mainstream appeal just because it is not as dark in tone.

Fluxus is on Spotify and contains 11 tracks in total, so be sure to check out the full album! The band is also very active on social media, often interacting with the comments on their music videos while each member has their own Instagram account. If you need a little variety in your music, I strongly urge you to give Synsnake a listen.
