Adding a bit of spice, this Throwback Thursday will take a look into the sexy concept for girl groups. From adding hints of sexy to challenging the objectification of women, here are some bop-worthy and thought-provoking songs for this week.

“Sting” - Stellar

With the mix of synth, a good bass, and Stellar's sweet vocals, “Sting” is a light-hearted pop song. The various electronic layers that continue to build throughout “Sting” are enticing as the beats help create a well-crafted song. “Sting” has a mix of feminine charm with hints of sexy throughout the music video. The soft, pastel colors in the video reflect the sweet feeling of this song while the choreography adds to their balance of sweet and seductive. It also hints at the self-awareness for the objectification of the members with the use of the computer mouse pointer being directed towards their bodies as well as the faceless man taking photos throughout the video. After the disbandment of Stellar, this theme really came to light when the members went into detail on their mistreatment and being forced into sexy concepts. It’s heartbreaking that their company, The Entertainment Pascal, took advantage of the members and their sexuality, as Stellar deserves much more recognition for their talents. When they were able to have a comeback similar to a pretty style that the members wanted, Stellar’s talents shined.

“Expectation” - Girl’s Day

Girl’s Day brings so much energy with “Expectation.” This upbeat dance song uses a blend of robotic voices singing underneath the member’s vocals. All of their voices are quite lovely in this song, with the chorus being insanely catchy. The video is chock full of different concepts, from sweet and romantic looks to seductive styles mixed with the members wearing black, red, and lots of metallics. The choreography is equally sexy throughout with the most memorable dance moves, especially when they incorporate suspenders into the choreography.

“How’s this?” - HyunA

When talking about the sexy concept, HyunA is the embodiment of sexy confidence that is contagious. “How’s this?” is an electronic party song that really makes you feel empowered just from hearing HyunA’s voice. The music video is sexy and stylish, showing scenes of having a fun night out at a club. Full of partying and dancing, “How’s this?” exudes sexiness as HyunA shows us again and again that she isn’t afraid to be herself. As a listener, one can really feel her confidence, making this a great dance song for when you just want to let go and have fun.

“Ah Yeah” - EXID

“Ah Yeah” is an upbeat song with a funky saxophone and a strong mix of powerful vocals and aggressive raps throughout, making it a fun listen through and through. EXID never shies away from the sexy moves, and “Ah Yeah” delivers an iconic dance point that includes lots of hip moves. Both the lyrics and music video for this song really focus on social commentary that is way ahead of its time, allowing the members to stand proud and unafraid of how they want to present themselves. It goes in-depth about the unwanted attention women receive, and this is further shown when you hear the whispers of a guy asking, “Where do you live?” and, “Do you live alone?” The song reflects the response a woman may give to the creepy, unwarranted questions. The video really enforces this idea about how women are uncomfortable from being oversexualized by men during their day-to-day life, but when women are not afraid to show off their sexuality, they are often censored for it.
