Ciipher Show Rapid Growth with First Comeback

Only a few months after their debut, rookie boy group Ciipher are back with their second mini-album BLIND along with the music video for title track “Blind.” Like with their debut album, members Keita, TAG, and WON contributed to the lyrics and production of the five new tracks.

Title track “Blind” is like the mature, slightly grown-up version of their previous title track, if not in terms of the lyrics then certainly in respect to the sound of the track. While “I like you” showcased the boys in a kind of puppy love situation, “Blind” expands on those feelings. The music video also shows growth, as instead of working in a warehouse grocery store, the Ciipher members have an office job. The video opens with Keita at his desk, typing away, before clicking on a message that pops up saying, “I LIKE YOU.” Whether it’s a reference to their debut song or the content of the track is up to fans to decide, as both are viable answers.

BLIND is another five-track release from Rain’s rookie group, and the B-sides are just as catchy as “Blind,” but it’s “Joker” that sticks out the most. If you were a fan of “Fire” off of their first mini-album, you’ll absolutely love “Joker.” They’re both the outliers of their albums; they’re the more experimental tracks where Ciipher gets to explore different genres, styles, and sounds, and they steal the show in my opinion. BLIND also seems to steer away from the pure pop sound that 안꿀려 (also known as I Like you) excelled at showcasing. That’s not to say the tracks aren’t poppy or upbeat, but rather that the group is continuing to experiment.

This album is a huge step up for Ciipher. Gone are the days of autotuned tracks; here we get Ciipher’s vocals as-is, and it’s great. They all sound incredible, making this an amazing first comeback. Make sure to check out the music video for “Blind” below!
