MIRAE Shows a New Side with “Marvelous”

Since their debut less than a year ago, MIRAE has come with a new sound for each title release. That trend remains true for the latest title track “Marvelous,” which takes more influence from pop rather than the hip-hop influences we saw in the last comeback. As the group continues to expand their genre library, we see more sides of their musical versatility.

“Marvelous” at its core is a classic dance pop track, with a driving beat that carries the melody from start to finish. Where MIRAE’s distinct twist comes into the song is at the use of accidentals and half-step melodic lines, most obviously prominent in the chorus and opening melody. This adds a bit of flare to the beat that makes it more memorable. The track overall will get stuck in your head, but for some the unique harmonization might be a bit much and throw off the groove of the beat. However, we find it to be a nice addition that makes the song a bit more unique to the group.

The video has a distinctly different feel as well, with more neutral colors and hues of orange being the main focal point in the video. In dance scenes, the boys are wearing either white-dominant outfits or plaid school uniform-inspired outfits, giving off a more boyish appearance overall. There is an otherworldly feeling to the setting, with a split night and day sky seen in one of the primary dance shots and the use of planets as props. It’s a fun and quirky video that also places a lot of focus on the unique choreography.
