Park Jihoon Faces Off Against Himself in the Retro-Inspired “NITRO”
It’s been almost a year since the last album release from Park Jihoon, but fans of the former WANNA ONE member have to wait no longer for new music from the singer. Having made his mark and achieved virality during the run of Produce 101 Season 2, Jihoon has so far enjoyed quite the successful solo career since he debuted back in 2019. Though only 23, he’s been active in the entertainment industry for many years, and that definitely shines through in the quality of his work.
Even for those unfamiliar with Jihoon’s solo releases, “NITRO” is a great introduction and listen. The song takes popular influences from the ‘80s, with the synth driving beat sounding straight out of the Stranger Things opening theme. As a soloist, Jihoon’s vocals really get a chance to shine in a way that wouldn’t be as obvious as part of a group. His tone is smooth, breathy, and quite pleasant, especially along with the chosen musical influences. The song also incorporates some modern hip-hop influences at points in the track, which build together to make a refreshing and enjoyable track.
The video plays like a snippet of a classic action movie, where Jihoon is attempting to escape attempts on his life. The storyline builds as the video plays, up to the point where we see him pointing a sniper rifle at himself. It’s definitely a darker concept that fits well with the track. If you’re missing an action-packed theme, don’t miss out on this video.
