DPR We Gang Gang
DPR are currently on the UK and European leg of their REGIME tour. They’ve been to Paris, Amsterdam, Munich, Berlin, Brussels and now finally the UK, starting with London and then Manchester. So, to celebrate DPR's time in Europe and the UK, here is a look at some of DPR Live and DPR Ian’s best B-side tracks.
“Boom” - DPR Live, DPR Ian
The fourth track from DPR Live’s 2021 EP IITE COOL, “Boom” showcases the great collaborative work between DPR Live and DPR Ian, despite them both having quite different music styles. The song uses their different styles to its advantage, combining DPR Live’s rap approach with an interesting falsetto singing-rap style from DPR Ian. While “Boom” contains explicit lyrical content, its melody carries a chill, laid-back vibe throughout that transitions into this cinematic, magical section toward the end; incredibly pleasing to the ears.
“S.O.S” - DPR Live
“Let's go beyond” with this B-side track from DPR Live’s 2020 album IS ANYBODY OUT THERE?. Rather than the usual abbreviation, DPR Live’s “S.O.S” stands for “Sailing Over Saturn,” with the song transporting us through a trippy, relaxed beat. The song also incorporates the morse code for S.O.S throughout, later being joined by a warped guitar riff that adds an extra appeal to the song.
“Miss Understood” - DPR Ian
The fourth track from DPR Ian’s latest album Moodswings In To Order, “Miss Understood” comes from DPR Ian’s personal experience with a girl. In an interview with Rolling Stone, he described the track as, “a character diary entry about her falling in love with him but also in love with MITO too.” The song carries an electronic-infused R&B sound that has this great groove to it before later transitioning into a slower, psychedelic vibe.
"Diamonds + and Pearls" - DPR Live, DPR Ian, peace.
DPR Live and DPR Ian’s collaborative track with peace. for Marvel's 2021 film, Shangchi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is one of the best songs to have ever come from a film soundtrack. "Diamonds + and Pearls" carries a ‘60/70s rock-inspired, pop infused sound that immediately makes you think of The Beatles and that era of music. There's also an incredible play on words in the lyrics that pay homage to The Beatles' 1967 track "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds," with DPR singing, “I stole all the diamonds in the sky, looks like Lucy's all alone tonight.”
