Even When the World Comes Crashing Down, Highlight Won’t Let You Stay “Alone”

In their new release “Alone,” we see Highlight in a way we’ve never seen them before. The new single was written, composed, and arranged by BXN and released on November 7, 2022 alongside their fourth mini-album AFTER SUNSET. The mini-album consists of five tracks, with “Alone” being the title track.

With no one member alike, Highlight kickstarts this alluring comeback as you’ve never seen them before. Who says second generation groups can’t fit in with the new crowd? In this new and dark concept, even the audience gets trapped in their paradox as we try to decipher all the metaphors and hidden meanings. For instance, why are there so many floating cars?

But delving into the lyrics, we can see the frustration of the members after a confusing breakup. The music video shows amazing camera work with the glass shattering, the cracking of the walls, and the buildings falling. Could they signify that a purely sensual relationship turned into a bit more, realizing their feelings after they’d already broken up? The members also sit paralyzed in a white psychiatric room, battling mental anguish, leaving all the tools to company on standby as their minds are thinking of one person only. Their pain is so out of this world that even the moons are breaking.

All-in-all, “Alone” is a very easy-going song to listen to and is performed so elegantly that we almost forget its purpose. There is no doubt that this new single deserves to be in the MelOnTop 100, and everyone is excited to see what Highlight will come up with next!
