Park Bom Releases Somber Duet “Flower”

Making her elegant return, soloist Park Bom dropped her latest digital single and music video titled “Flower” featuring MeloMance’s Kim Minseok. In a solemn duet, both Bom and Minseok use their golden and powerful vocals to express a heart-wrenching sentiment. It’s been a little over a year since Park Bom released a digital single, last year’s romantic single “Do Re Mi Fa Sol.”

Written and composed by VILLAINX’s J6 and ELLUII, Any Masingga, and Chakun, “Flower” depicts the heavy feelings of a woman who suffers from daily emotional pain, expressing resentment towards herself. In addition to this, the song also portrays the feelings of a man who remains by her side through her personal struggles, carrying the burden with her. This is definitely not your ordinary ballad; it’s an important story that can provide a space for those who have or can relate.

This gloomy ballad is certain to strike a chord in you with lyrics that say, “Like a withered flower, like a broken and scattered glass, I don't have tomorrow.” What's beautiful about Kim Minseok's addition to the single was how compelling he made a particular line of the song feel. The line, “On those days, when you feel lonely like that, I want to cry endlessly from you for a moment,” can oftentimes be the message you want to hear in a time of emotional pain and loneliness. When both of them take on the bridge and final chorus, it's obvious that their vocals blend harmoniously and will bring tears out of you. Paired with a heavenly arrangement of violins and piano, this ballad's solemn and serious sentiments make an impact and remain unforgettable.

If the song wasn't enough to pull at your heartstrings, the music video really gives a visual and artistic experience of what loneliness and sadness can look like. In an entirely black and white video, Park Bom stands in an empty canyon with a lovely gown, looking off into the distance. With only a single flower taking on an extremely vibrant red color, the world looks to be lonely. As Kim Minseok makes his entrance, he walks slowly towards her, portraying the male in the track who watches the woman go through difficult times, trying his best to give support at a distance.

If you pay attention to the music video, you'll notice contemporary dancers portraying a couple and expressing the song's serious and melancholic emotions. The female dancer gives a visual image of coping through difficult times but is noticeably losing herself from the loneliness and resentment she's developed. When the male dancer joins in, you can tell almost immediately that he's expressing that he'll be there to catch her when she falls or cannot handle these difficult obstacles on her own. By adding dancers to the background of the music video, they add volume to a lyrically doleful track; choreographing a dance to portray these heart-wrenching emotions allows viewers to visually understand the theme of the song. Even in a black and white world, Park Bom and Kim Minseok brought color to a tearful single.

Park Bom has quite a way of making each song she releases a masterpiece, especially with her range and skillset as a singer. She puts her rich vocals and emotions into her music and always makes it her own. Park Bom is a timeless singer that will always take your breath away and soothe your soul every chance she gets.
