Best B-Sides of March
March 2022 has seen a lot of comebacks, debuts, and new releases from a variety of artists, with a few more to look and listen out for over these last few days of the month. But, for now, here’s a look at some great B-sides that have been released so far this March.
“G.M.T” - Bang Yongguk
“G.M.T,” short for “Give Me That,” is the opening track in Bang Yongguk’s second EP 2. Sonically and lyrically, the song kicks off the album on a powerful note, featuring strong guitar riffs and loud vocals. The quick build and never-ending pace of this song make for an essential listening experience that only Bang Yongguk can provide.
“525” - Ailee
“Stay in bed from 525” listening to this sultry R&B track from vocal queen Ailee, taken from I’M LOVIN’ AMY, the all-English re-recorded version of her 2021 album AMY. “525” is smooth, sexy, and most of all, addictive. Not only do we get to hear Ailee’s flawless vocal range in this track, we also get to listen to her take on a short but smooth, low-pitched rap section. Listen to this song once (either in English or in Korean) and you will instantly have it on repeat.
“Wish i could” - Suran
“Wish i could” is a sad orchestral ballad from Suran’s latest mini-album FLYIN’ PART1. The beautiful song is accompanied by a harp that elevates Suran’s heavenly vocals. The song talks about the emotional nostalgia of a time from the past and draws a parallel with the experience of pushing through life alone.
“Ghostin’” - Kim Wooseok
“Ghostin’” is the incredible opening track to Kim Wooseok’s third mini-album 3RD DESIRE [Reve], that blends Latin-inspired guitar instrumentation with heavy bass, R&B sounds, and smooth, hypnotic vocals to create a track that is addictive from the first listen. “Ghostin’” is said to be an extension of “Next,” the hauntingly sexy closing track from his 2021 mini-album, 2ND DESIRE [Tasty].
“RAIN” - Kihyun
The final song in Kihyun’s single album, “RAIN” is a powerful track that allures the listener with its dark and moody atmosphere. The haunting backing track, which includes a synth bass, complements the MONSTA X member’s vocals very well. The explosive and dramatic chorus matches perfectly with the lyrics that express the emotion of parting away in the rain.
“Muddy Water” - Stray Kids (Changbin, Hyunjin, HAN, Felix)
Stray Kids’s rap line, Changbin, Hyunjin, HAN, and Felix, pays great homage to old school ‘90s rap and hip-hop in “Muddy Water,” the seventh and closing track from their latest studio album ODDINARY. This track perfectly highlights the rap line’s individual talents as rappers and lyricists while also highlighting their incredible skills of being able to blend modern rap with ‘90s nostalgia.
