MYNAME Stirs Trouble in the "Just tell me" Comeback
After turning heads with the dance hit “too very so MUCH,” boy group MYNAME kept the party going with the addictive “Just tell me.”
MYNAME was a bubbling artist on the K-Pop scene for four years when they finally drew wide attention with the song “too very so MUCH” in February 2015. Making sure to keep the momentum going, they followed up just three months later with the track “Just tell me” on May 13. The five members stayed busy in the Korean music scene in 2015, making up for the year and a half they spent promoting in Japan.
The group’s leader and vocalist Gunwoo flexed his composer skills and co-produced the catchy trap-inspired song along with three other songs off the group's fourth single album. Rappers Seyong and JunQ also showcased their lyricism alongside Gunwoo in the album's last song “Sleepless love.”
Days before the official release of “Just tell me,” MYNAME piqued interest by debuting the song on the May 7 episode of M!COUNTDOWN and following through with a week’s worth of music show promotions. Although their first stage isn’t available online, their second stage on Music Bank showcases the member’s trendy choreography against a backdrop of life-sized speakers and a boombox. The members matched the party energy of the song with their big moves, playfully throwing themselves into each other while Seyong showed off his acrobatic abilities with one handed backflips.
Even after a week of music show performances, MYNAME continued to tirelessly promote their comeback song on the streets of South Korea by giving a surprise pop-up concert in the Hongdae neighborhood on May 11, 2015. In a place known for street performers, MYNAME drew a large crowd and gave them a taste of their previous songs “too very so MUCH,” “Broken watch,” and “Hello&Goodbye.” After hooking the audience, they gave two performances of “Just tell me” and treated their new fans to signed CDs and photos.
MYNAME dropped the risque music video for “Just tell me” a day before the song’s official release on music sites and got handsy with female dancers while grinding along to the club beat. In the video, the quintet parties it up with a crowd of dancers while the lyrics describe one begging their lover to be open about their upset feelings and to just tell them what has them so angry. While showing off their wild moves in dance cuts, the members also come off as players as they wrap their arms around women and lean in close for a kiss.
In between daily music show appearances, MYNAME found time to prepare for their third solo concert at Seoul’s AX Hall and their two-day fanmeet at Incheon Nest Hotel during the last week of May 2015. Even though the group wrapped promotions for “Just tell me” without taking home an award, they continued to work hard at presenting their best selves to their fans. In July, they topped the Japanese OriconSingles Chart with their summer release “HELLO AGAIN.”
