Solo Artist: Park Kyung

When one thinks of the members of Block B, it’s hard to not immediately think of ZICO. However, Park Kyung is another member who has made a name for himself as a producer and solo artist. His style is typically low-key, with lofi beats and jazz-inspired sounds for an upbeat yet relaxing feel that uses clever lyrics. For this week’s Throwback Thursday, we are going to take a look at some of Park Kyung’s most popular songs!

“Ordinary Love”

“Ordinary Love” is an R&B style sweet love song that is sure to brighten anyone’s mood. What really makes this song so addictive is just how well Park Kyung’s raps complement the light yet soulful voice of featured artist Park Boram. The video matches the bright personality of this song, as it incorporates pops of color throughout while showing the two having fun together.

“Inferiority Complex”

Featuring former GFRIEND member and current VIVIZ member Eunha, “Inferiority Complex” is a fresh and upbeat song. Eunha’s higher pitched and airy voice adds a layer of innocence to this sweet song and pairs seamlessly with Park Kyung’s charismatic rap. The music video is almost a mini-drama as it follows Park Kyung and Eunha around as they go on dates. Park Kyung gets self-conscious the entire time as he feels as though Eunha is looking at other guys until it turns out that it was all inside his head.

“When I’m with you”

“When I’m with you” dives more into Park Kyung’s soft romantic jazz sound, making it easy to listen to as it brings the feeling of relaxing at a cafe on a rainy day. This warm song featuring Brother Su may seem repetitive with the lyrics, however, this repetition brings a sweetness to this song, especially with Park Kyung’s lovely intonation. The lyrics and music video are all about those sweet feelings you get when you first start to fall in love.

“INSTANT”

“INSTANT” is another of Park Kyung’s songs that beautifully incorporates that light jazzy feeling throughout the tune. His sense of style and charisma really get a chance to shine. There are so many unexpected twists sprinkled into the song that it does not feel like background music. Artist SUMIN has a small vocal feature in the song, which makes you wish to hear more of the two duetting together. The music video follows Park Kyung around as he visits various aesthetic rooms before leading to him performing with a band.

From his days as an underground rapper to K-Pop idol, Park Kyung has grown into a personality and style that is uniquely his own.
