K-Dramas Starting In May

May. The time when flowers bloom, days are long, and a fresh batch of Korean dramas begins. This month, we also see a rise in original shows from Netflix and Disney+, so check out the list and decide which drama you plan to watch first.

Bloody Heart

Lee Tae (Lee Joon) becomes the new king of Joseon after his father's reign. He believes that he can do whatever he wants to get what he desires. However, not everyone agrees with his way of ruling. First Vice-Premier Park Gyewon (Jang Hyuk) wants a warmhearted and kind king, something that Lee Tae is not. Yoo Jeong (Kang Hana), the woman that Lee Tae loves, gets stuck in the middle of their power struggle and has to fight to save her family.

Bloody Heart is airing in select regions on Disney+.

The Sound of Magic

When Yoon Ahyi (Choi Seungeun) was small, she would daydream about her type of life when she became an adult. Now that she's older, all she can do is keep her head down and work. She has supported her family with various part-time jobs ever since her parents abandoned her and her sister. In addition to working, Ahyi stays at the top of her class. She wants to get the best grades to get into the best school and secure her future. It's a lot of stress for one person to manage. One night, Ahyi meets Ri Eul (Ji Changwook), a magician who performs for people who believe in magic. She tells him she still believes in magic, and he changes her life forever.

The Sound of Magic is currently airing and is available on Netflix. The webcomic is also available on WEBTOON.

Woori The Virgin

Oh Woori (Im Soohyang) wants to wait until marriage before she has relations with her significant other. The older she gets, the more difficult it is, but she avoids tough situations by staying away from romance. She is dating, though. Woori thinks she has everything figured out until she accidentally gets artificially inseminated. Now she's carrying the baby of Diamond Cosmetics CEO, Raphael (Sung Hoon). If things aren't complicated enough, Raphael is in the middle of a messy divorce and having a baby out of wedlock just might be the thing that causes his soon-to-be ex to win.

Welcome To Wedding Hell

Welcome To Wedding Hell follows Kim Naeun (Lee Yoonhee) and Seo Joonhyung (Lee Jinwook) as they navigate planning a wedding. After dating for two years, they decide to marry in a fairytale-style wedding. They think it would be easy to create, but they are so wrong. The duo soon face problems every time they try to make a wedding decision, which causes them to rethink getting married.

This romance drama will be available to watch on Netflix.

Golden Mask

Also translated as Gold Mask, this makjang drama follows the lives of three women. Go Misook (Lee Wheehyang) owns part of a restaurant chain and is a private moneylender. Yoo Sooyeon (Cha Yeryun) falls in love with a chaebol heir and marries him despite her modest upbringing. Most people think she's living a fairytale life, but little do they know she's like Cinderella—before the happily ever after. Sooyeon's in-laws are cruel to her because of her upbringing. Cha Hwayoung (Na Younghee) will do everything to keep her standing in high society, no matter how brutal or greedy she may seem. 

Golden Mask will begin airing on May 23.

Kiss Sixth Sense

This original Disney+ K-Drama follows Ye Sul (Seo Jihye), a young woman who can see events in the future when she kisses someone. The problem is that she doesn't know how far it could be; a month, a year, or more. Ye Sul leads a happy life while working at an advertising company. The only negative thing is her boss, Min Hu (Yoon Kyesang). One day, Ye Sul accidentally kisses her boss and sees them in bed together. Naturally, Ye Sul freaks out and hilarity ensues when she tries to change the future she saw with her boss.

Kiss Sixth Sense is also a webcomic and can be found on WEBTOON.

Eve

Lee Lael's (Seo Yeji) whole life has been about revenge. Her family was destroyed by the LY Group after her father unexpectedly died, so Lael decided to exact her revenge on Kang Yoongyeom (Park Byungeun). Later, Lael presents Yoongyeom with divorce papers that include two trillion dollars. Will Lael get her revenge, or will her husband keep his money while she loses her sanity?
