Jeong Sewoon Brightens up the Spring with “Roller Coaster”
As we continue into the days of spring, Jeong Sewoon returns to the music scene with a bright and comforting track in “Roller Coaster.” The title is accompanied by the mini-album Where is my Garden! One thing Sewoon is excellent at is providing upbeat and sunny music, perfect for the current season. If you need a little pick-me-up these days, “Roller Coaster” may be enough to provide you with some comfort.
“Roller Coaster” is a groovy, jazz influenced track that has a bit of a retro feel. There aren’t a lot of electronic instruments used in the song and it focuses mostly on piano, rhythm guitar, and a horn section in the chorus. This type of focus isn’t really pop, but it has the same kind of feel-good effect as an upbeat pop track. Sewoon’s vocals are sweet and really convey the meaning of his lyrics in enjoying the ups and downs of life. The lyrics compare life to a roller coaster and remind the listener to enjoy the ride, even when the difficulties take over, since that unpredictability is what keeps life interesting. It does a good job of portraying an optimistic outlook on life, something a lot of us need after how the last few years have been just on a global scale.
The video is fairly simple, with much of the focus being on Sewoon alone. He is the only subject of the video, focusing on his cheery expressions as he plays various instruments or enjoys the sunshine. His outfits have a bit of a retro flair, with a lot of patterned sweaters and pastel colors to match the feeling of the song. It’s a simple video without much extravagance, but that just gives more room for the song itself to shine while the video is used to accentuate the message.
