ADORA: From Producer to Soloist

If you’re a fan of BTS or TXT (Tomorrow x Together), then chances are you are familiar with ADORA and her work. Before beginning her journey as a soloist, she was a very well-known producer in BigHit Entertainment, and for a time was the only in-house female producer on the team. Let’s take a look back at the start of her career to where she is now.

ADORA began her journey in the music industry as a trainee under Music K Entertainment, and was initially supposed to debut as a member of the girl group The Ark, but that didn’t pan out as planned. She was recruited as an in-house producer for BigHit in 2016 through the audition project 2016 Next New Creator and remained with the company until 2020.

Her first credit on BTS’s works came on Wings, where she worked on “Interlude: Wings.” She had a hand in producing 2017 hits “Spring Day” and “Not Today,” along with “Outro: Wings” on You Never Walk Alone. She is also behind fan-favorite Love Yourself 轉 ‘Tear’ track “Magic Shop.”

The first taste of her vocals came in the form of the backing vocals for Jin’s solo track “Awake” and SUGA’s solo track “Trivia 轉 : Seesaw.” For me personally, I recall how impactful her backing vocals were for SUGA’s solo, and it left a strong impression on me how well she blended with the rapper.

There are many more works penned to her name, including a track for GFRIEND and V’s OST for Itaewon Class. After leaving BigHit in 2020, she signed an exclusive contract with Aura in October 2021 with plans to make her solo debut in November. Her first digital single “Make U Dance” was released on November 5 as part of the DINGO Music Project. The track features VIVIZ’s Eunha and is a groovy and modern upbeat pop track that is super catchy. The chorus has a very unique sound to it that makes it stand out as a production.

Since her debut, she has released two more singles, “The Little Name” in March and “Trouble? TRAVEL!” at the beginning of June. “The Little Name” is a track completely different from her debut single, with an R&B base melody that gives off Hoody vibes. The smooth melody has an almost lofi-like quality to it, as if the smooth beat is providing comfort while ADORA’s vocals lull you to sleep. It has a strangely nostalgic feel to it, but it’s hard to describe why. It definitely stands in nice contrast to her debut, showcasing a wider variety of talent for her.

“Trouble? TRAVEL!” came out on the first of the month and shows a cuter image for the singer, the video this time featuring choreography. The soft and innocent aesthetic isn’t only shown in the video, but is definitely felt through the bubbly pop track. This one has less unique elements than her debut “Make U Dance,” but has a certain charm in the wholesome concept.

ADORA is definitely a talented artist, and it was showcased even before she made her debut as a soloist. With three pre-release singles out and an already very active 2022, we’re excited to see more music from her in the future.
