The Hauntingly Beautiful Voice of Sunmi

Former member of Wonder Girls and now a solo artist, Sunmi has taken the K-Pop industry by storm with her hauntingly sultry, soft voice and powerful lyrics. This week’s Throwback Thursday will take a look at some of her comebacks that became major hits.

“Gashina”

“Gashina” made for a perfect debut for Sunmi. Her first solo song released after the disbandment of Wonder Girls, “Gashina” really encapsulates the new style and aesthetic that Sunmi was looking to achieve in her latest solo music. The song is quirky yet beautiful, as her husky vocals capture you. What really makes “Gashina” stand out is the music video. Sunmi’s charm really stands out as she isn’t afraid to look crazy dancing around while giving the camera various sexy stares.

“Heroine”

Sunmi immediately draws you in with her soft sultry vocals and then hooks you into this powerhouse track filled with synths and that catchy tropical house sound. The music video for “Heroine” shows us a dance between her and a partner, representing a couple that is fighting about whether or not to continue on together.

“Siren”

“Siren” continues to give us that retro-inspired dance song sound. The music video starts out almost like a horror movie as Sunmi sits in front of the mirror before a siren goes off. Her room flashes red and she is soon faced with an alter ego of herself. Her choreo is powerful as she uses these grand moves that are sure to capture you.

“Noir”

“Noir” is an ‘80s synth-inspired song that gives us a lofi sound with a lovely melody. The music video gives us a cool aesthetic while portraying the addiction and toxic relationship one may have with social media. From the importance of likes and creating fake posts to upload, Sunmi shows the dark side that social media can bring out of people as they try to get attention.
