JAY B Provides Comforting Words with “흔들의자 (Rocking Chair)”

Upon joining CDNZA Records at the end of July, JAY B made his first release under his new label on August 23, with “흔들의자 (Rocking Chair).” This was one of the unreleased songs that JAY B performed live at his first Fancon NOSTALGIC back in June this year.

“흔들의자 (Rocking Chair)” shines a spotlight on the inner turmoils people go through when life seems to be moving without you, but has the healing of JAY B expressing he will be that rock for you, your rocking chair to soothe your racing mind. The song dropped at 6PM KST along with its visualizer, which starts with an alarm ringing and continues to slowly follow JAY B throughout a somewhat mundane day.

The visualizer shows JAY B singing, aiming toward the camera, hoping for his message to reach through whoever is watching. He’s not leaving room for ambiguity. It shows him recording “흔들의자 (Rocking Chair)” on a cassette tape for whoever picks it up to listen.

The simplicity of the video relays the emotions of the song, as you don't need overwhelming visuals to overpower your mind. People rarely go through the process of curating cassette tapes or burning songs on CDs, so for JAY B to be doing this shows the sincerity of his actions and the amount of meaning he is putting in “흔들의자 (Rocking Chair)”. As the cassette sits atop the table, it comforts you by stating “흔들의자 (Rocking Chair)” doesn't have to be an everyday listen, but you know that it is there for whenever you do want to listen, one on the shelf for you to revisit when you feel like everyday tasks are becoming too much.

The simple acoustic track fits comfortably with the lyrics which dig deeper into the meanings of how everyday tasks can become overwhelming, or how regardless of how much a day can feel normal, you’re not really with it. JAY B provides the comfort of being that person who is singing to be that light in the dark for you, using imagery to say how he will become your rocking chair.

With how the guitar seems to be singing along beside him, by creating harmonies and riffs, it makes you think the guitar sympathizes with him and understands these hardships just as much despite only being a body with six strings. “흔들의자 (Rocking Chair)” as a whole makes you feel reassured that it’s okay to go through difficult days, but also provides the consolation that they’ll pass soon.

“흔들의자 (Rocking Chair)” is available now on all streaming platforms.
