Throwback Thursday: Spooky Season Edition Final Part
Hello, and welcome back to spooky season tracks. In the first part, we only skimmed the surface when it came to the K-Pop songs that radiate spooky. There are plenty of songs out there that scream Halloween, and today we are going to take it back and talk about those tracks.
NCT 127 - “Favorite (Vampire)”
I can’t be the only one who literally screams this song around the house. It’s just such a great song that many of us would love to hear live, but let’s talk about the spooky aspect of the track. “Favorite (Vampire)” was released on October 25, 2021, and the opening scene to this track with all of the members asleep and then zooming in on leader Taeyong and his fangs got many listeners intrigued by the concept. The vampire theme that was shown throughout the entire video screamed Halloween and it was something new that we saw from NCT. It’s a great comeback that gave off the spooky feel that we needed.
Sunmi - “You can’t sit with us”
“You can’t sit with us, oh, I hate you.” Our quirky queen Sunmi came back and gave us a zombie-themed track that we all know. “You can’t sit with us” was released on August 6, 2021, and it is such a fun track. The overall zombie concept was so cool to see. The camera work in this video was phenomenal. The scene when she fights the zombies reminded me of a movie. It’s always so cool to see videos made like this, it adds an extra wow factor to the already jammed-packed video. An added touch to this is that every outfit in this video can easily be used as a Halloween costume.
Red Velvet - IRENE & SEULGI - “Monster”
Our spooky queens were serving in this comeback. “Monster” was released on July 6, 2020, and many of us have been obsessed with this track ever since. The haunting, monster concept of the track emits Halloween energy. The song itself is really eerie, and the CGI monster face was the icing on the cake. Red Velvet is known for their chilling, mysterious, and classy concepts and this sub-unit featuring members Irene and Seulgi took all three and put them together. While this song wasn’t released in October, it is known that this track has to be played during this time. It’s a well-known spooky song that we all know and love.
PIXY - “Wings”
PIXY is another group that radiates that spooky vibe in all of their comebacks. On February 25, 2021, PIXY released their song “Wings” to the world and it is so good. In the video, the whispering, the red lights, the screams, and the eerie aura send chills down any viewer's spine. “Wings” is a hard-hitting track with intense choreography. PIXY has a unique sound and concept that is getting more and more popular in K-Pop and it’s amazing to see the dark concept being done full-time.
Dreamcatcher - “Red Sun”
It was hard to pick just one Dreamcatcher song because the majority of their songs give Halloween. This is personally one of my favorite songs Dreamcatcher has released. “Red Sun” is a B-side that was promoted during the time of their comeback. The dance video was released on April 3, 2020. Dreamcatcher is another group whose overall rock/punk-pop sound and concept are shown in every comeback. “Red Sun” sounds mysterious and creepy, and many of us love that. The witchy vibes that one gets from this track come from the red lighting, black flowy dresses, and siren-like singing. This is another track that has to be played every October and should be in everyone's spooky playlist. It’s definitely in mine.
