PIXY Want You to Face Your “KARMA” in Latest Comeback

PIXY have made their return! This comeback marks a new era for the group since they have been through some member changes - with now former members Ella and Satbyeol leaving the group due to health and personal reasons. In late 2022, Rinji was announced as the newest member of PIXY as the group’s maknae, main dancer, and sub vocalist

CHOSEN KARMA is the fourth mini album for PIXY, with “KARMA” as the title track. The album contains six songs including the title track.

The most unique thing about “KARMA” is it’s a hybrid of two other songs on the album, “Hide & Seek” and “Flip a coin.”  In the “Chosen Karma Countdown Talkshow” held by the girls right before the comeback release, lead vocalist Sua says the title song didn’t initially exist until they sat down to pick one out from the album. The decision was between “Hide & Seek” and “Flip a coin” but they eventually decided to remix the songs together and it became “KARMA.” This was a great move by the girls. It combines the best parts of two songs to come together to form a great track. It features the groovy instrumentals from “Hide & Seek” and the darker sounds in the chorus of “Flip a coin.”

This also shows their growth as well as the development of their storyline. Rinji goes on in the talkshow to explain this album as the universe where a coin flip would determine the life or death of the evil in said universe. Evil is a big theme in PIXY’s storylines, and they even allude to previous comebacks in the lyrics of “KARMA.,” particularly their song “Villain.” This album is a great continuation for the girls in terms of their lore and despite what the group has gone through, they continue to do it well.

The music video also continues the group aesthetic of dark themes and colors. The choreography is mainly shown in an alley, where they even imitate flipping a coin in the dance. The girls also are shown cutting strings to a voodoo doll numerous times while singing about deciding your fate. The video is another great addition to the group’s lore, and how it ties into both previous and future comebacks is amazing.

The five B-sides of the album include “Hide & Seek,” “Flip a coin,” “Falling,” “Whisper,” and an instrumental version of “KARMA.” PIXY once again proves with this comeback they are the ones to watch out for!
