Enter CODE KUNST’S Remember Archive
CODE KUNST is back with his latest album, Remember Archive, and with so much artistry and star power thrown into the mix, the release feels like nothing short of divine intervention.
Remember Archive is the producer’s fifth full album and features one of the most star-studded lineups of 2023 thus far. With big names like Jackson Wang, Crush, Yerin Baek, Tiger JK, and more, the album has something for everyone. “Jumper,” the title track, features Gaeko and MINO, already setting the bar high for the rest of the release. The hip-hop track has a simple backtrack, letting the spotlight fall on the rappers, especially MINO’s insane second verse.
Following an instrumental intro “Remember Archive” and “Jumper” is “BAD BAD” with Tabber and Jay Park which takes a more relaxed R&B approach, leaning into a groovy beat. “CIRCLE” features K-R&B crooner Crush whose smooth vocals give the song a pop music touch. “HoMe boy” featuring LEE HI stays in the pop lane with the singer’s vocals layered over atmospheric sounds and an almost tropical beat.
“Woode” with Woo brings the tracklist back into hip-hop territory, with the rapper delivering velvety verses over a muted electric guitar. Things pick back up in pace with “Shine,” yet again featuring Woo, but this time also with Tiger JK and JUSTHIS as they trade verses over a classic hip-hop beat. The vibe quickly shifts back to the quieter side at its halfway point with the instrumental interlude “in the attic,” before delving into “Page 1” with Yerin Baek and pH-1. The track has that signature dreamy K-R&B lofi sound—perfect for an introspective album such as Remember Archive. “Slip” has a similar tone, trading in Yerin Baek and pH-1’s soothing vocals for BIG Naughty’s sultry rhythmic raps. “little bit” goes back into the realm of R&B, packing an emotional punch with DeVita’s heartfelt vocals.
“55” is a pre-release track from single Archive 01 (along with “BAD BAD”) released earlier this month. The calming R&B song features vocals from Yerin Baek and Red Velvet’s WENDY, whose voices balance each other perfectly. The song also has its own touching music video that shows couples savoring their final moments together before the end of the world.
“Terminal” features SUMIN, Kid Milli, and CHAI, where SUMIN’s vocals in the chorus give the song an extra slinky touch. CAMO and Paul Blanco feature on “Petty,” a pop-R&B fusion song. “911” with Jackson Wang is about as sexy as the album can get, with Jackson’s alluring vocals giving the electric guitar-based song an extra layer of sensuality. The penultimate track “Crew” is a playful-sounding hip-hop cut featuring Coogie, Paloalto, and Chin. A full 17 tracks later, the album appropriately winds down with the stripped-back song “Rec Stop” featuring meenoi.
