It’s “Sour & Sweet,” But Which BamBam Will Succeed?

Everyone has a B-side, but can evil and good really coexist? BamBam’s first full album Sour & Sweet tells eight secrets only he knows, but now you know too as of March 28, 2023. But fans know it doesn’t start and end with just an album (or two versions with different photobooks, can you say lucky?), but a whole week of promotions. BamBam’s a busy idol, but he loves his fans. So, what spring events has he arranged for us? 

If you’re lucky enough to be in South Korea, the BamBam X EVERLINE POP-UP STORE event will be held from March 29 through April 2, 2023, alongside their EVERLINE X BamBam LUCKY DRAW event. If you can’t attend those, you can sign up for the FAN SIGN AND VIDEO CALL event with Apple Music. This immersive experience gives you the chance to vote for your favorite hair and outfit, and you don’t want to miss BamBam’s iconic looks! Applications close on April 3, and the event takes place on April 29, 2023. 

Don’t worry if you can’t make it, because there are plenty more opportunities to support BamBam! If you’re premium on YouTube, the idol will have an afterparty event at 8 p.m. KST on March 31, 2023. BamBam introduced the album’s concept during his fan showcase where he sang new tracks and previous singles. The stories behind the tracks might tug at your heartstrings, as BamBam discusses being himself versus the idol everyone wants to see. Many have seen the GOT7 BamBam, and we’re only just getting to know the solo version, but there’s also the real him waiting to spread his wings and fly. Shouldn’t we be interested in who that person is too?

For those who entered the “Guess the Title” event, did you get it right? If you did, congratulations! Sour & Sweet’s title track of the same name was composed by Emily Rebecca Vaughn, JADE.J, Jonathan Santana, Kyle Reynolds, Psycho Tension, and BamBam. Don’t get sad if you guessed the title wrong, because you can still cheer for him in the fanchant guide. And I don’t know about you, but “Sour & Sweet” ended really quickly, right? Trust me, even after listening to the pop track multiple times, there’s still a lot to explore about BamBam’s dark side.

The music video shows a white mansion signifying pureness and innocence. It then takes a sinister turn when a crime scene is exposed with polaroids scattered on the floor. But what exactly happened? We can hear flames in the introduction and ending, but BamBam is close to the ocean. Upon first thought, it looks like the story is being told backward as the police sirens sound and they talk over the radio. Meanwhile, a helicopter searches for someone in the ocean. Could it be BamBam or was it the person he killed?

Throughout the music video, strange things occur, such as BamBam surrounded by backup dancers all wearing white outfits with red notions. Listen, everyone needs company; maybe this is just a performance his brain is creating to ignore the crazy situation. As the story unravels, a “Sour & Sweet” card arrives, but is it a threat or an invitation? Soon, BamBam starts taking red and green pills that seem to be the key between his transitions. But his bad side prevails as we see red liquid overfill in a glass and spill, whereas the green drink is quickly emptied. No matter how much he drinks, his evil side wins until he sees a “beautiful distraction” through a very obvious, large telescope.

However, as the idol tears the missing person posters, his Jekyll and Hyde personality is revealed. Could it be that this version of BamBam is a corrupt chaebol, or could he be the technician that analyzes the crime scene? Did he fake his death and go on the run, or did he sacrifice his “B-side” to live only one life? Who do you think won? At the end, it’s revealed his mansion was burnt to ashes. Was he trying to remove his last trace?

Overall, “Sour & Sweet” reminds us that it’s okay to have an identity crisis and be drawn to the dark side by your desires. After all, there are many events, labels, and people that influence us, and when those things break down and fall apart, we don’t know how to act. When love or passion has been lost, it rings true that your persona changes and no one knows what you’re going through because everyone reacts to things differently. So, when life throws you “sour” lemons, try to take some time for yourself, even if that means hiding your true feelings. When “sweet” lemons float down onto your lap, try to go out into the world and help others and enjoy what life has to offer. But if no lemons appear, think about that special person who brings out your best side instead.
