In Loving Memory: Moonbin

It's been a week since the beautifully talented Moonbin became one with the stars. Moonbin debuted with ASTRO under Fantagio Entertainment on February 23, 2016. As the world mourns with heavy hearts, let's take a look back on all of the beautiful memories Moonbin left behind.

His Younger Years

Before Moonbin became a talented singer, he was widely known in the child acting and modeling industry, and he always had that beautiful smile. Growing up, he made many cameos in different music videos and shows. His most popular is his role as the young So Yijung in Boys Over Flowers. Four years ago, ASTRO uploaded a video of young Moonbin singing “Butterfly” by G-DRAGON, and I think the video showcases his amazing talents that started at such a young age.

After Debut

His endless training led him to debut under ASTRO, which brought him worldwide success that he'll be remembered for. Throughout his years of being in the group, he released covers and solo songs that happen to be some of my favorite songs ever.

My favorite cover of his has to be “Changes” by Justin Bieber. The video is shot by him and embodies the kind of person he was. From clips of him walking in the night street to random shots of the countryside, the video brings viewers peace. My favorite part of the cover is how soothing his voice sounds; it truly wraps in the meaning of the song.

Another one of Moonbin’s most popular covers is the one he did with his sister Moon Sua. They covered “Candy In My Ears” by Baek Jiyoung ft. Ok Taecyeon, and perfected the performance on Music Bank. The chemistry that the siblings shared was undeniable, and the talent they both hold paired so well with each other.

While being a part of ASTRO, Moonbin and fellow member Sanha debuted as a sub-unit on September 14, 2020 with their first mini-album IN-OUT. This became the first sub-unit of ASTRO to debut, and both Moonbin and Sanha left a mark on the charts. “Bad Idea,” one of the six songs on the album, reached No. 3 on the Gaon Download Chart

Moonbin’s talents will forever leave a mark on the industry, and his touching words will stay with AROHA forever. Although he was lost too soon, his soothing voice will always be here for us to listen to. So, while we mourn him, let's continue smiling for him as he would for us.
