The announcement came from the house with excitement as they shared Vernon would be making his first appearance for the brand during Paris Fashion Week at its Spring/Summer 2024 runway show on June 23.
As of 2021, Kenzo has been operating under the creative direction of Nigo. Some may recognize Nigo for his record producing; however, his fashion background stems deep, earning him the status of being a staple in the fashion industry.
From the success of his work for A Bathing Ape, Billionaire Boys Club, and Ice Cream footwear, Nigo’s eye for trends and unique selling points allowed him to become fully integrated among the streetwear scene, making his transition to luxury fashion brands seamless. Kenzo prides itself in having a strong link to international entertainment industries under the influence of their creative director, so the partnership with Vernon makes so much sense.
Vernon’s gratitude and natural curiosity towards the partnership can be felt as he exclaimed that he was looking forward to showcase a new side of himself to his fans. The Spring Summer 2024 collection commemorates city pop, intertwining the roots of Kenzo Takada, founder of Kenzo, and a modern perspective of that era’s old Japanese music through Nigo. Vogue describes the collection as one that explores and compares both Nigo and Kenzo’s archives, with this best showing through the tailoring on their pieces.
Nigo’s signature denim wear is an aspect to the runway show that continues to stand out. The added flair of laid-back, casual luxury resides well in this collection. The calm nature of the collection makes it apparent why they chose Vernon as their first global ambassador. Kenzo is for the people who live in their own world, but look and feel good while doing so.
