Throwback Thursday: September Debuts Edition
We are now in September, so you know what that means: it’s time for September debuts. Many of the groups on this list have grown into such powerhouses that conquer the world of K-Pop. So let’s take a look back at some well-known debuts of groups we love today.
f(x) - “LA chA TA”
I know just by saying this group name you can list so many of their biggest hits, but today we are going to talk about their debut. f(x) is a girl group under SM Entertainment and has been dropping absolute bangers since September 5, 2009. When they had their debut, the title track “LA chA TA” showcased all five members. The members Victoria, Amber, Luna, Krystal, and Sulli made this song so much fun. This electro-pop song showed us what to look forward to when it came to future work from f(x). It’s a great dance track that hypes up any listener. They are so iconic and will remain on all of our playlists.
DAY6 - “Congratulations”
I don’t think I have ever cried for a debut until I heard this one. DAY6, a JYP Entertainment boy band made their debut on September 7, 2015. This band came onto the scene with the song “Congratulations” and many of us have not been the same since the release. At the time of debut, there were six members total. The members Sungjin, Young K, Wonpil, Dowoon, Jae, and Junhyeok all played different instruments in this band. This pop-rock track tells the story of a breakup and the heartbreak that happened with it. The music video portrays the story fully and shows the hurt both halves of the relationship went through. DAY6 has been releasing music since then, with their discography housing banger after banger. Their music is so good and should be played through all speakers.
iKON - “MY TYPE”
“iKON is coming to town” To all of the iKONICS out there, we’re about to take it back. iKON, the former YG Entertainment boy group, had their debut on September 15, 2015, and many of us have been obsessed ever since then. Their debut track “MY TYPE” is such a laid back song, and the overall vibe of the song is chill. The members of iKON are vocal and rap geniuses and are all so talented. The group at the time had seven members in total. The members B.I, Bobby, Jay, JUNE, Song, DK, and Chan put their all into this debut. It’s a top-tier track that brings a smile to many faces when it's on.
LOONA/ODD EYE CIRCLE - “Girl Front”
This is such a fun sub-unit that brings pure joy to all of us. LOONA/ODD EYE CIRCLE is a sub-unit from the hit girl group LOONA. They made their debut on September 21, 2017, with members Kim Lip, JinSoul, and Choerry. The track “Girl Front” is a song we will never forget. This house/dance track talks about how much they like a boy. “Girl Front” also has an upbeat, hard-hitting beat drop that makes any person want to dance. It’s a great debut that had us super excited for what was to come. In great news, ODD EYE CIRCLE has recently had a comeback which makes us all so happy to see the girls back together again.
GWSN - “Puzzle Moon”
Now, this is a debut. These girls came into the scene with a synth-heavy pop title track that had us all dancing along. GWSN is a seven-member girl group, and they had their debut on September 5, 2018. The members Seoryoung, Miya, Seokyoung, Anne, Minju, SoSo, and Lena were all independent but made their debut under The Wave Music. Their debut track “Puzzle Moon” delivers in every category. The choreography in this song is so much fun. The interesting part is the hand choreography—it is really the main point of the dance. This girl group would go on to make so many great tracks until they disbanded. GWSN will always remain a talked-about girl group because of how different and good their music is. They put their mark on K-Pop and will always be streamed by many listeners.
