Ryu Sujeong Collaborates with XYLØ on 2ROX

For her second EP 2ROX, soloist Ryu Sujeong collaborated with American artist XYLØ. Released on January 24, the EP features this duo on three unique songs. According to Ryu Sujeong, she comprises the “R” of the two, “OX” refers to XYLØ, and the “2” signifies the singers as a pair.

Tracklist:

  1. “BAD GRLS (feat. XYLØ)”

  2. “SHXT (feat. XYLØ)”

  3. “Fallen Angel (feat. XYLØ)”

  4. “SHXT - Instrumental”

  5. “Fallen Angel - Instrumental”

“BAD GRLS (feat. XYLØ)”

2ROX starts off with “BAD GRLS,” an all-English track. Ryu Sujeong and XYLØ first showcased “BAD GRLS” during XYLØ’s SHOWCASE IN KOREA on November 19, 2023. XYLØ describes the song as one that “encapsulates the personality of me and SJ [Sujeong].” It’s a great song to play on the way to a ladies’ night out. XYLØ composed the song with Lee Newell, who also wrote the lyrics alongside the 2ROX duo.

“SHXT (feat. XYLØ)”

Like the previous track, “SHXT (feat. XYLØ)” is a perfect song to play when out with your friends. The two women sing about feeling like superstars. The music video has Ryu Sujeong and XYLØ spending the day together, with some colorful cuts to animated scenes of boxing. It’s nothing but good vibes. “SHXT (feat. XYLØ)” is one of two songs from the EP Ryu Sujeong composed with WOOKI. The other was the EP’s official pre-release, “Fallen Angel (feat. XYLØ).”

“Fallen Angel (feat. XYLØ)”

Initially released on January 10, “Fallen Angel (feat. XYLØ)” showed that the duo can also bring angst. The instrumental for the track feels unnerving, even a bit anxiety-inducing. The gentle vocals of Ryu Sujeong and XYLØ placed on top give it a contradictory nature. It’s soothing, but underlying it is an unsettling environment. Both the song and its music video portray a toxic relationship: they show two lovers drawn to each other despite the pain they inflict on themselves.
