Throwback Thursday: Songs For Your Halloween Party Part 1
When you hear October, what comes to mind? For me, it's the month of scary movies, pumpkin spice everything, sweater weather, and Halloween. Every October, I watch horror movies and listen to my spooky playlist. It’s a playlist of songs from different Korean artists and their spooky bangers. Last year, I spoke of some iconic songs perfect for this spooky season. Today, we will take it back and talk about some songs perfect for that costume party you are planning.
Red Velvet - “RBB (Really Bad Boy)”
I can’t make a spooky list and not add our spooky queens to the mix. On November 30, 2018, SM Entertainment mega girl group Red Velvet dropped their Halloween banger, “RBB (Really Bad Boy).” This upbeat spooky track makes you want to bust a move in your seat. Two specific things that stood out with this release were the music video and the vocals. The music video showcases the members in what seems like an old-fashioned horror movie, but bright and colorful. The wolfman shown throughout the video is the definition of a really bad boy. The vocals are out of this world. The members are heard hitting whistle tones and literally screaming as part of the lyrics. It would be a travesty to not talk about this song. It’s a great song and should be played at your costume party.
PURPLE K!SS - “Ponzona”
Hands down, this is a debut to go down in history. On March 15, 2021, RBW Entertainment girl group PURPLE K!SS dropped their eerie debut track “Ponzona.” The girl group gave us a track we can never forget. The song starts with a scene of the girls standing around looking at a book. The witch concept is so cool to watch and the girl's acting skills create a supernatural aura around the video. PURPLE K!SS’s vocals aren’t talked about enough for me. These girls are powerful vocalists and you can hear it in this song. There are belts and harmonizations that make you scrunch your face in satisfaction. It’s a great debut song that needs to be added to your spooky playlist.
PENTAGON - “Dr. BeBe”
On February 11, 2020, CUBE Entertainment’s powerhouse boy group PENTAGON dropped their hard-hitting track, “Dr. BeBe.” This song is so good, it stays on repeat in my car. We all know what amazing vocalists PENTAGON are, and they did not come to play in this comeback. Their belts, high notes, and harmonies make you feel like you are levitating. The vocals add to the eerie aura of the music video. Compared to the more upbeat, bubbly, lighthearted music we were used to from PENTAGON, this track takes a dark concept and does it perfectly. The music video is dark, and the members are seen running, and tied up. They take a more psychological horror approach on this video and it was something new and creative from PENTAGON. This has to be added to your spooky playlist. It will make your party even more fun!
