Get Moving With The Boyz’s Ninth EP 導火線 (TRIGGER)
The Boyz are back with an explosive EP, 導火線 (TRIGGER). Released on October 28, the group’s ninth EP contains six new tracks, including the title track “TRIGGER.” The EP’s title uses the Hanja (Chinese characters) 導火線 for the term 도화선 (Dohwaseon), which means “fuse” or “cause.”

The Title Track: “TRIGGER”
“TRIGGER” is a dance track that, much like the song’s message, will get people on their feet. Its narrative centers around an impetus for change: The Boyz wishes to “light the wick” that sets off a movement. The song’s chorus transitions into a grand, orchestral sound to drive home its power. This theme also comes through in the 導火線 (TRIGGER) physical album versions, “Flash,” “Riot,” “Pioneer,” and “Vanguard,” the last of which takes on two meanings that apply to the music video. A vanguard refers to individuals who lead an advancing military force or an innovation of ideas. The music video takes on a gritty aesthetic with dark colors and an ominous usage of technology.
The B-Sides
導火線 (TRIGGER) starts with the B-side “Bite Back,” a song first performed during The Boyz’s WORLD TOUR: ZENERATION II. This Afrobeats and hip-hop track shows a sexier side to the group. They transform into bad boys in the following track, “bAd.” They call themselves “bad but fresh,” in lyrics by bay, Mia, and The Boyz member Q. The R&B songs “Slip Away” and “Re-Wind” show the sweeter side of The Boyz, the latter which includes lyrics contributed by member Eric. The EP ends with the pop song “See Me Dream,” filled with dreamy vocals.
