Big Ocean Follows Their Own “FLOW” in Their First EP
Big Ocean is now out with their first EP, Follow. Released on November 12, Follow includes Big Ocean’s first English song, “FLOW,” and their three previous singles. Through collaboration with American producers, “FLOW” signifies Chanyeon, Hyunjin, and Jiseok’s goal to have their music reach across oceans. The trio, who debuted in April as K-Pop’s first hearing impaired group, continues to spread awareness about their community and embrace people of all backgrounds.

Finding an International “FLOW”
Written and composed by American producers Mark Batson and Rob Bressler, “FLOW” describes a longing romance, a wave of emotions that courses through one’s body: “You’re like water to me, like pure poetry / You’re the hero I’ve been missing,” Hyunjin and Jiseok sing in the song’s first verse. Batson called the pop-dance song “a dream come true” and a “major achievement in art meets technology.”
Big Ocean utilizes Paris, France, as their shooting location for the “FLOW” music video. The group visited the city to perform at K-Expo France 2024 on October 26, and it looks like they spent some time taking in the sights. This included visiting the world’s first public school for deaf people, Paris’s National Institute for Young Deaf People (Institut National de Jeunes Sourds de Paris). They secured permission to film through discussions with staff of local organizations, like Marie-Pierre Medouga of the French consulting agency Agence ECODEM, who helped Big Ocean work with the national institution. The video also shows more collaborative efforts through its grand dance sequence shot in Paris’s La Défense district: Big Ocean enlisted the help of French PADO, their fandom.
The rest of the Follow EP features Big Ocean’s past tracks: their debut song, “Glow,” their second single, “BLOW,” and their third single, “SLOW,” a collaboration with DAY6’s Young K. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Hyunjin explained that the songs follow a chronology of meaning. “We want people to ‘Glow’ with hope, ‘BLOW’ through challenges, ‘SLOW’ down their pace, and ‘FLOW’ naturally,” he said. Big Ocean will continue reaching global audiences when they perform at the Cayman Islands’s Cool Out 2024, a technology and finance conference, between November 14–17.
