Throwback Thursday: This Is What You Call A Masterpiece Part 1
We all have that song that we believe is a full-blown masterpiece. Everything about the song is beautiful. Perfection. Today, we are taking it back and talking about some tracks considered masterpieces among many.
ATEEZ - “Answer”
Like many others, I knew this song was a masterpiece the moment I heard it. On January 6, 2020, KQ Entertainment boy group ATEEZ dropped their amazing EP, TREASURE EPILOGUE: Action To Answer. This EP features the excellent, spectacular, top-tier title track, “Answer.” Whew, this song makes you feel like you are levitating. The vocals in this song are mesmerizing and genuinely showcase these members' immense talent. Just from the opening beat drop, you are hooked to the track, but the ending of “Answer” is something that I can only explain in two words: life-changing. To hear Jongho holding that high note and listening to members like San and Seonghwa harmonizing in the background will change your understanding of music. I recommend that everyone listen to this song and understand the power of a true masterpiece.
EXO - “Tempo”
On November 2, 2018, EXO dropped, to this day, one of their best title tracks. Their album, DON’T MESS UP MY TEMPO - The 5th Album, is a masterpiece. Each song is spectacular, but something about “Tempo” just makes you so happy. “Tempo” is a retro-inspired track that has a heavy R&B influence. We all know how talented EXO is, and in this song, they wowed us all over again. From the song's beginning, you are hit with powerful vocals from members. “I can’t believe” is the first line you hear. We are given powerful vocals, hard-hitting raps, and harmonies throughout the song. The bridge to this song is one of the best bridges in K-Pop, and that is not a stretch. The way they broke the song down, you can hear only their voices. How they used a capella in the song shocked us and had us at the edges of our seats.
Taeyeon - “INVU”
On February 14, 2022, Girls’ Generation member and soloist Taeyeon dropped her hit album, INVU - The 3rd Album. In that album is her iconic girl boss title track, “INVU.” This masterpiece stepped onto the scenes and cleared. “INVU” is a pop and R&B mixture that will make you want to stand up and dance. The beat is addictive, and so is the choreography. You will find yourself copying the iconic INVU hand movements. Taeyeon is a phenomenal vocalist: in this song, you can hear her hitting all types of notes in different vocal ranges. For example, her falsettos are crisp, smooth, and graceful. After listening to “INVU,” you will find yourself singing throughout the day, “So I N V U.” It’s a beautiful song and has all the makings of a masterpiece because it is.
