MISAMO Delivers in HAUTE COUTURE

The girls are back and hotter than ever—MISAMO returns with HAUTE COUTURE.

The trio, comprised of TWICE’s Mina, Sana, and Momo released their second Japanese mini-album on November 6, following the releases of “NEW LOOK” and “Identity” earlier last month. Both songs and the album as a whole pull inspiration from high fashion (the likes of which all three members are highly familiar). “Identity” starts the album off with fanfare and unpredictable instrumentation that will have you on the edge of your seat.

“RUNWAY” sounds exactly like something that would play on a runway and highlights the dynamic between the members’ voices despite being an understated song. “Wah Wah Wah” is a playful song that’s bound to get stuck in your head, but the jazzy “Baby, I’m good” does a one-eighty, offering one of the slinkiest of 2024. “Daydream” is as easy to listen to as it is catchy. Listeners will find themselves singing along to the chorus immediately. “NEW LOOK” maintains the fun energy, keeping things light hearted in an otherwise very mature album.

“Jealousy” turns things back down in every way, coming in with heavy bass and the lower registers from all three girls. HAUTE COUTURE already does a great job showcasing the differing vocal talents from each MISAMO member, but the album goes one step further and features each on her own solo. Mina starts off with “Misty,” a perfect title for a song where her signature hazy vocals sound hypnotizing over limited instrumentation. Momo stars in “Money In My Pocket,” rapping in English over a heavy beat. HAUTE COUTURE comes to a silky smooth close with Sana whose soprano sparkles over a dance groove that ties back into the fashion show theme.

All in all, it’s a solid second release from the ladies of MISAMO, who have made it clear they’re out to make a name for themselves—and they certainly have with HAUTE COUTURE.
