Throwback Thursday: Christmas Edition Part 2
It is Christmas time! It’s time to break out those comfy PJs and put on your favorite Christmas movie. Mine are Elf, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. During this time many groups drop iconic holiday tracks that we listen to every time. So, let’s take it back and talk about some of these holiday songs that are perfect for this time of year.
GOT7 - “Miracle”
Tears are streaming down my face every time I listen to this song. On December 3, 2018, GOT7 dropped their dreamy repackage &ME Edition. On this day, we got one of the most beautiful title tracks I have ever heard. The moment the song starts, you are transported into this magical, wintery oasis. The piano is smooth, and their vocals are soothing. The way the rappers ride the beat while still sticking to that dreamy, whimsical sound is so impressive. If the sound of their voices doesn’t make you cry, then the music video will. Watching the members take care of this little girl and give her a magical Christmas will bring a tear to your eye. This isn’t the first time GOT7 dropped a Christmas banger; this time, this song was on the slower side—a ballad to get us through the holidays. It’s beautiful and captures the true essence of Christmas.
EXO - “The First Snow”
Every December in Korea, this song is number one in the chart. “The First Snow” is the “All I Want For Christmas Is You” of Korea. On December 9, 2013, EXO dropped their Christmas EP, Miracles in December. This B-side is one of the most iconic K-Pop Christmas songs out there. “The First Snow” is an upbeat dance-along track. While listening to this track, you can’t help but smile and wish for snow. We all know what amazing vocalists the EXO members are, but we get a more tame and laid-back vocal experience in this song. This type of aura is perfect for that winter stroll, or just chilling in front of the fireplace. It’s a graceful song, and I can see why this is a favorite amongst EXO-L’s and in Korea.
Red Velvet X aespa - “Beautiful Christmas”
On December 14, 2022, Red Velvet and aespa dropped a collab we never knew we needed. The two SM Entertainment girl groups came together and gave us a Christmas dance track. This is the track you play at your holiday parties to get everyone on their feet. “Everybody, come have yourself a (self a) beautiful Christmas.” The lyrics are addictive, and you find yourself wanting to dance with the girls. There’s nothing like an upbeat Christmas song you can sing along to, which is exactly what the girls gave us.
