Chungha Kicks Off the Holiday Season with English Single “Sleigh”
It’s official, the rush of holiday singles from our favorite K-Pop artists has started. Soloist Chungha joins the rush with her new original Christmas single “Sleigh.” This all-English single is her latest release since August.
The classic pop beat is highlighted by the sleigh bell melody, subtle enough that Chungha’s vocals shine through. Like many holiday singles, the lyrics of this track utilize an extensive amount of Christmas motifs. And I say extensive because I’m quite sure she hit every single Christmas cliche, even the harder phrases that stick out like “Fa la la.” And, naturally, it’s a love song. There is a lot of chatter in the YouTube comments related to the lyrics “I sleigh from head to mistletoe,” fans remarking it’s exactly what they’d expect from Chungha. Sure, it’s a little campy, but isn’t that to be expected in the Christmas season?
The video is fairly simple, opening up with Chungha in a very pink heavy room on a bed with the tiniest little puppy behaving like an angel. Honestly, the starring puppies are the highlight of the video. Pink isn’t traditionally seen as a major holiday color, but some of the props add a subtle holiday touch to the video. The ending of the video shows a very Hallmark movie-esque scene, where Chungha drops a letter outside and is chased down by a handsome stranger that also protects her from getting hit by a passing biker. You certainly can’t argue that she didn’t hit all the cliches with this single.
