Soojin Captivates Attention with “MONA LISA”
Soojin has made her first comeback with her second mini-album! RIZZ is a six song EP with the title track “MONA LISA” released May 23, 2024.
“MONA LISA” is a similar vibe to her debut “AGASSY” in the sense of it being an easy listening type of track, with the more recent release adding more percussion and electric guitar to the instrumental. Afrobeats are also a big highlight of the track which seems to be appearing more commonly in recent K-Pop releases as a whole. Soojin’s agency, BRD Entertainment, describes this comeback as a different side of the soloist, but she still stays true to the roots that we heard in the AGASSY mini-album in the style of easy listening. The vibe of “MONA LISA” is supposed to be a mysterious sound, while the lyrics support that being about desire for others and captivating them with a charming gaze much like the actual painting of the Mona Lisa.
The music video is visually stunning. Soojin appears as if she is a goddess in the underground to suit the mood of the track. The usage of her dancers fit so well with the choreography and given that Soojin is such a strong dancer, she made everything look so fluid and smooth. The budget was very evident in how well the video came out seeing how beautiful it looked.
Alongside the title track, the B-sides for this album include “RIZZ ME UP,” “Lime,” “Tide,” “DROP TOP,” and “Summer Daze.” RIZZ broke Soojin’s record with AGASSY in first day sales, with RIZZ selling 27,164 copies on its first day compared to under 10,000 for AGASSY.
