Throwback Thursday: August Debuts Part 2
The month of August is jam-packed with amazing introductions to new groups and some great summer songs. While researching, I learned that many of our favorite groups debuted during this month. Part one only skimmed the surface when it came to debuts, so today, we are going to talk about a few more groups who graced us with their presence on their big day.
Red Velvet - “Happiness”
“Sometimes, you gotta be bold! Just rock the world! BOO-YA!” Have you ever heard a song that just brings out pure happiness? If not, you just have to listen to this song. On August 1, 2014, SM Entertainment's super-talented girl group Red Velvet debuted. The title track, “Happiness,” is a well-known debut track and showcases the members’ amazing vocals and rapping abilities. For example, I know we all know Wendy’s iconic bridge. Her vocals are so powerful that you can feel the emotions through your headphones. These girls have been eating ever since their debut. At the time, the group consisted of members Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, and Joy; Yeri joined the next year and now, almost 10 years later, the girls are better than ever. We’ve seen the progression of the group, and it is always a joy to see the groups you love blossom into the icons they are now.
NCT Dream - “Chewing Gum”
Another group coming from SM Entertainment is the NCT unit NCT Dream. On August 25, 2016, NCT Dream came into the scene with their adorable debut, “Chewing Gum.” This debut was a breath of fresh air. The bright concept, candy theme, and overall fun aura created a debut song we will never forget. The track is super addictive. I found myself sometimes just singing “Chewing Gum.” “Chew-chew-chew-chew-chewing gum,” will be on replay in my brain. Since their debut, NCT Dream has been known for their bright and cheerful concepts, and the members Mark, Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle, and Jisung do such a great job giving us music that makes us want to dance and smile.
Weki Meki - “I Don’t Like Your Girlfriend”
If you are looking for a song that will get you super hype, and make you want to dance, this is the song for you. Fantagio girl group Weki Meki dropped this hard-hitting debut track on August 8, 2017. Many of us have been streaming this song ever since then. This track is striking and has a strong drum line and bass. In the track, we get to hear the members' powerful rapping and vocal skills. The members Suyeon, Elly, Yoojung, Doyeon, Sei, Lua, Rina, and Lucy are all powerful performers, and you can tell from the executions of their choreography. All of Weki Meki’s music is addictive and is so much fun to listen to, and just from debut, we could tell these girls were going to go far.
LOONA - “Hi High”
Now, who doesn’t know this song? If you wanna talk about a debut track everyone knows, this is the one. Many of us can sing this song word for word. On August 20, 2018, ICONIC girl group LOONA, made their big debut as a group. The title track, “Hi High,” is a well-known song that once turned on everyone is singing and dancing along. The group is jam-packed and full of talent. The members Haseul, Heejin, Hyunjin, Yeojin, Chuu, Choerry, Gowon, Jinsoul, Kim Lip, Olivia Hye, Vivi, and Yves are all present in the video and showcase their extraordinary talent. To this day, LOONA will always be known for their iconic music. They are such talented girls, and it is always so much fun to go back and see their beginnings.
