Throwback Thursday: Rappers Stand Up

For the people who love hip-hop/rap-heavy songs, this is for you. As one of those people myself, finding some songs in my playlist wasn’t hard. Many of the names in this list are big names in the K-Hip-Hop genre. These songs are a compiled list of tracks that had more than one rapper on them. So, let’s take it back and listen to these rappers spit some bars.

“WITCH” - Yeeun, Jiwoo, JAMIE, CHEETAH, and HYOYEON

On June 19, 2020, episode six of the Mnet show GOOD GIRL dropped on YouTube. The episode featured the iconic performance, “WITCH.” This group performance featured singers and rappers like former CLC member Yeeun, KARD member Jiwoo, solo artist JAMIE, soloist CHEETAH, and Girls’ Generation member and soloist HYOYEON. I love it when women tackle more hard-hitting/dark concepts, and these women ate it up. Each member’s parts are striking and capture each of their rapping skills. The beat is electric, with a synth sound to it. During the stage, the members bring out their best dance moves.  When I saw this performance for the first time, I was shocked. If you ever wanted a song to dance to that will have you feeling like a complete baddie, this is the track for you.

“TITANIC” - Jackson Wang (feat. Rich Brian)

Where were you when this banger dropped? I had recently graduated high school and every time this song played it was on full blast. On October 25, 2019, Jackson Wang dropped his album, MIRRORS. From start to finish, this album is packed with hits. One of his unforgettable songs was the track “TITANIC,” featuring Indonesian rapper Rich Brian. Both rappers on this song were a sight to see. It felt like two worlds were colliding. “I got you girl on panic. Iced out my wrist Titanic. Like 2-1, I’m on my savage. No airport but claim my baggage, uh.” This song can be sung word for word. It’s so addictive and has a catchy beat. The black-and-white video makes this song even cooler. The merging of the two talented rappers' styles mixed perfectly. I recommend this song to everyone because you just have to hear how amazing this song is.

“Trauma” - SEVENTEEN

“I’m in trauma, it’s got me singing (Yeah, yeah).” On November 6, 2017, SEVENTEEN dropped their album, SEVENTEEN 2nd Album ‘Teen, Age’. On the album is the song, “Trauma.” Sung by the group's hip-hop unit, this song is a masterpiece in the eyes of many. The members, S.Coups, Wonwoo, Mingyu, and Vernon took part in the process of this song and gave a hip-hop unit song that touches on the topic of trauma. The song is lovely, and compared to other hip-hop unit tracks, it is on the more tame side. While still having a captivating beat, you are taken in by the more laid-back tone of the song. It is a track that Carats can never forget and is one we can sing word for word.
