Throwback Thursday: Weekly Idol’s 2x Speed Dance Challenge
There is a collective of videos that took over the internet a while back. During promotions, K-Pop idols would appear on the Weekly Idol show. There they would do this special challenge that would bring a smile to all of our faces. The “2x Speed Dance Challenge” not only promoted the recent release of an artist but also showed off the immense talent that our faves possess. They are also very funny to watch. So, let’s take it back and revisit the past.
SEVENTEEN - “Don’t Wanna Cry”
July 21, 2017 is a day we can never forget. On that day, Pledis Entertainment mega boy group SEVENTEEN appeared on the ALL THE K-POP channel. If you are trying to get into SEVENTEEN, and you want an inside scoop on what amazing dancers they are, then this video is for you. During this time, the group was promoting their hit track, “Don’t Wanna Cry.” This song is jam-packed with powerful vocals and striking dance moves. Throughout the choreography, the members are seen strategically walking between each other, interlocking arms, all while performing fast-paced footwork. Each movement is in synch and there isn’t a foot out of place. While watching the video, you are amazed. This video is awesome and shows SEVENTEEN’s talent from a new perspective.
SHINee - “Sherlock(Clue + Note)”
On October 12, 2016, members Key, Onew, Jonghyun, Minho, and Taemin from the ICONIC SM Entertainment boy group SHINee’s ”2x Speed Dance Challenge” dropped. During their promotion at the time, they appeared on Weekly Idol. While there, they did the challenge to their song, “Sherlock(Clue + Note).” This song is known for its elaborate choreography. At twice the usual speed, you are at the edge of your seat watching. With member Onew sitting out for this one, they fill in the gap and complete the challenge with ease. The choreography is difficult. The members can be seen doing turns, poses, and high kicks that have to be timed perfectly to create the illusion, and they do amazing. From the beginning, the energy is high and you can’t help but watch with that same level of excitement.
TWICE - “CHEER UP”
Cheer up everyone! On July 27, 2016, JYP Entertainment girl group TWICE appeared on the ALL THE K-POP channel. During their time on Weekly Idol, the girls did their “2x Speed Dance Challenge” to their song, “CHEER UP.” This upbeat and bubbly song at twice the speed created a cheerful aura in the whole room. Being cheered on by the other groups in the room and the MCs, the excitement was felt through the screen. The choreography is packed with different moves that consist of the members on the ground, complex arm movements, and domino effects on certain moves. The girls are precise, making sure each movement is sharp, yet still carries the bubbly concept the normal speed does. It’s a cute video. The smiles are shown throughout and you can’t help but smile while watching as well.
