JISOO’s Love Hits Like an “earthquake” in First Solo Comeback
It’s been just under two years since JISOO made her solo debut. In that time, she’s parted ways with YG Entertainment for her solo career, established her own label, and has been focusing on acting roles. 2025 is ramping up to be a big year for the girls of BLACKPINK, with abundant solo releases and the announcement of a world tour for later in the year. With her fellow bandmates Rosé and Jennie already having releases and smashing records and LISA with plans to follow later in the month, there was a lot of anticipation to JISOO joining the fray after so much of her time being focused on acting. So, with her new agency set up, how has JISOO’s musical profile changed?
Well, first off, her debut single “꽃(FLOWER)” had a softer, more delicate tone and concept. Her comeback title, “earthquake,” even just on the surface, showcases a much different feel. I mean, just contrast the feeling the word “flower” gives you compared to “earthquake.” It’s punchy and bold, so you get an idea of what you’re getting. “earthquake” is much more fitting as a club banger, with heavy EDM as the basis of the melody, introduced in a buildup from JISOO’s first vocal line. This time of club banger seems to be the trend these days, but it does fit JISOO’s vocals very well. The chorus has a very infectious hook and has a totally different tone than her previous work.
The video has a much darker tone, kicking off with JISOO present in a steel office and getting a text before she’s detained by a detective as the lights flash around her. As she sings among the flashing lights and earth tremors, a Lamborghini bursts through the wall, and she doesn’t flinch so much. Super cool shot; we love the vibe it gives her in this song. Just about everything is black, red, or steel metal colored, giving off an intensity we don’t often see from her. I have to say that her outfits are an absolute vibe in this video as well, especially her shiny rhinestone tie. The concept and outfits are great and really match the song. It’s very unique and allows JISOO to really shine, elevating the song and taking it to the next level.
