LUN8 Embodies the Elegance of a “나비(Butterfly)” in Latest Comeback

The Fantagio boy group LUN8 makes their return after six months with new single album Butterfly. At the beginning of the year, the eight-member group lost member Eunseop, had members Dohyun and Eunho go on hiatus, and added a new member in Yuma. His addition was announced after the comeback announcement, so this comeback only features five of the members.

This is admittedly my first time experiencing LUN8, so I went into this comeback with no expectations. First impressions of the title track “나비(Butterfly)” is that it has a very unique sound. Many groups have released songs based on the butterfly, and the interpretation of how it should be portrayed varies greatly in many of these releases. This song is powerful and intense, highlighted by strong falsetto vocals and a heavy, almost ballad-like classical beat. The underlying emotional string melody invokes a particularly strong melancholic feeling, which is quite beautiful the more you listen for it.

The performance is what really shines in this track. The music video showcases a very heavy focus on choreography and gives pretty heavy VIXX vibes. The choreography is intense, flowing and elegant, complemented by their long flowing outfits that flutter along with them as they dance. I really like the interpretation of a butterfly in this performance, as it gives a more melancholy, yet graceful representation of an animal that is often portrayed in a brighter tone. The choreography and concept greatly elevates the intensity of the track and is definitely what got me hooked after the first listen.
