Throwback Thursday: Amazing Covers Part 2

There’s no way you thought we could do this in one part. There are so many amazing covers out there done by our favorite idols that there must be multiple parts. In part one, we talked about four different covers that altered our brains for the best. They are so iconic, and in this part, we are going to talk about more iconic covers that made us lean forward in our seats and watch in awe.

ATEEZ - “Rhythm Ta (The Awakening of Summer)” (Original by iKON)

During the height of the pandemic, six groups got together and competed on the show Kingdom: Legendary War. During that time, we were getting some of the best covers known to date. One cover that stood out is from the group ATEEZ. On April 29, 2021, ATEEZ dropped their cover of iKON’s ICONIC song “Rhythm Ta.” That song is already hype, and ATEEZ added an extra flare to the track. Incorporating their own signature sound, the cover of “Rhythm Ta” is a high-energy dance track with drill and electrifying beats. While keeping to the lyrics, the members also added their verses to the track, creating an extra sparkle for the song. Not only did they add their own flare to the song through the verses and exciting choreography, but they also added pieces of their lore to the performance. ATEEZ has an intense yet fun storyline, and during the performance, you see that the concept is a sneak peek into the story we don’t know yet. It’s a fantastic performance that will go down in history.

SEVENTEEN - “Egotistic” (Original by MAMAMOO)

On December 31, 2019, SEVENTEEN stepped on the stage at the 2019 MBC Music Festival and performed their cover of MAMAMOO song “Egotistic.” This cover included members Hoshi, Vernon, Wonwoo, DK, and Seungkwan. The five members came together to give us a different take on the iconic MAMAMOO song. Incorporating a more hip-hop sound and putting it in a lower key changed the song's overall vibe. It was more sultry and smooth. We got to hear all of the members sing a verse on the short cover. Instead of the usual striking style of rapping, we are used to from the SEVENTEEN members, we get to hear them perform the rap with a more smooth flow. Almost as if they were singing. While their verses are hard-hitting, they flow together with each word, and it fits the concept of the song. The dance is also changed in this cover. Instead of doing the original choreography, the members create a dance that still sticks to the concept of the song but incorporates their dancing styles. It’s such a great cover, and the members do a great job.

P1Harmony - “Rainism” (Original by Rain)

On December 5, 2020, P1Harmony gave us a Relay Dance that we will never forget. The members truly gave their all to the cover, which will be something we will remember forever. On that day, we got a cover of the well-known Rain song “Rainism.” At such young ages, the members stood before that camera and gave us a performance many try to replicate. There is no singing during this cover; the members are seen dancing to the choreography with such high energy. You are already hyped the moment the cover starts. Theo, Intak, Soul, and Jiung come to the front and hit each move with precision and power. The moment the chorus starts, Keeho and Jongseob step to the front, and you are on your feet. One part we all remember from this video is Jiung stepping to the front with the cane and EATING. It is such a fun cover, and I find myself watching it repeatedly.
