Throwback Thursday: Women In K-Pop (Girl Group Edition Part 1)

In honor of Women’s History Month, I thought it would be best to go back and talk about some women in K-Pop who truly changed our lives. Over the years, we have gotten many collabs, solo releases, girl group bangers, and anthems. I dug through my “Girls Run The World” playlist and found some songs that changed our lives. So, let’s take it back and talk about some women in K-Pop.

BoA, WENDY, & NINGNING - “Time After Time”

On December 26, 2022, all of the SM Entertainment artists came together and released a jam-packed album that features collaborations, full company songs, and good times. One song on the album that stood out and caught the attention of many people is “Time After Time” by soloist BoA, Red Velvet member/soloist WENDY, and aespa member NINGNING. This breathtaking ballad is so beautiful to listen to. When I first heard this song, I felt like I was floating. This song showcases the powerful vocals of all three women. They are all powerhouses when it comes to vocalists in K-Pop, and in this song, the girls show from the high notes and belts that they are amazing singers.

LE SSERAFIM - “ANTIFRAGILE”

We all know this song. On October 17, 2022, SOURCE MUSIC/HYBE girl group LE SSERAFIM dropped their iconic title track “ANTIFRAGILE.” Just like the name suggests, these girls are far from fragile. This upbeat track has a danceable and electric beat. Everything about this track is addictive. The beat, lyrics, choreography, and literally everything will get stuck in your head. For example, member Kazuha shows off her ballet training with that iconic leg lift, and “Anti-ti-ti-ti-fragile. Anti-ti-ti-ti-fragile” will be on a loop in your head. The girls honestly ate with this one, and they never disappoint. Their music is so much fun and will make you feel fearless while listening.

CLC - “ME”

On May 30, 2019, former CUBE Entertainment girl group CLC dropped their bass-induced, hard-hitting track “ME.” This upbeat track will make you want to bust a move right on the dance floor. While the song is giving girl boss, this song is also really uplifting. In the translated lyrics, the girls are calling themselves beautiful. The entire song is the girls uplifting themselves, and if you’re ever feeling low, this is the song for you. CLC is known for their more striking beats, addictive raps, and feel-good music, and the girls did not disappoint. “ME” is all that and more. This is a song that many love, and it shows that girls can conquer those more dynamic/energetic concepts and songs.
