KAI Has Returned With His 4th Mini-Album, Wait On Me

The wait is finally over. After completing his mandatory military service, EXO member KAI has returned with his new EP, Wait On Me - The 4th Mini Album. Coming back with a new sound, KAI gave us a mini-album that has shocked us all. Before leaving for his service, KAI dropped his hit song “Rover” and left us wondering what his new music will sound like. With a new afro-beat sound, KAI gave us the perfect track for the upcoming party you’re planning. “Wait On Me” is a groovy dance track that mixes the new sound and KAI’s R&B/hip-hop sound we are used to from him. While listening to the song, you can’t help but sway your hips to the beat and let the song just carry you away. KAI’s soft, smooth vocals really fit this style of music. KAI switches from singing to rapping throughout the song, showing his range and talent. The way the song is blended sounds like he mixed all of the genres that he has used in his previous songs, like “Mmmh,” “Peaches,” and “Rover,” and merged them to create this super song. Something else that stood out to me is the tone in which KAI sings this song. The tone is sensual, and he tends to meld the words together. The way he sings sets the tone for the song and gives it this fun vibe.

The music video is artistic. There are scenes where KAI is in low lighting, dancing as he goes down the hallway. There are moments where, in the background, as a black silhouette, you can see the backup dancers doing the choreography as KAI stands in the corner like a model. My favorite part of the video is the scene when they dance in the water. Water scenes are always so cool, and when he popped up with his backup dancers, it fit the video's aesthetic so well. Speaking of choreography, of course this is added to the list of KAI choreos that will shape a nation. The dance is intricate, focusing mainly on the elongated arms and striking movements. This is a dance I can picture many trying to learn. “Wait On Me” is a great song and was definitely worth the wait.
